Summary

-COMPLETED- THE GENERAL Seven days. Just seven days. That was how long it took for Prudence to put a crack in my meticulously built armor. For half of my life, I managed to elude my pursuers—women and enemies alike—by hiding my true identity. And for that same amount of time, I had followed four simple rules: don't let a woman become a distraction, don't become someone's pawn, don't lead by emotion, and don't show mercy unless it is necessary. *** "If you were to ask me about military strategies, I could tell you a dozen ways to defeat your enemies. If you were to ask me about combat, I could show you a dozen ways to defend myself. "But when it comes down to matters of the heart, I have no clue. I don't know how to comfort you. I don't know how to be eloquent about my feelings. "But one thing I can do...is show you."

Prologue

Prudence

Our country had been divided into four regions for many decades. And for a long time, we were able to live in peace and slowly prospered.

The four regions consisted of the North, the South, the East and the West. The North was governed by General Bac, the South was governed by General Nam, the East was governed by General Dong and the West was governed by General Tay.

However, General Tay had started waging war against the North and won. He was only eighteen at the time. To be fair, the North was the smallest out of the four territories. Its area was extremely disadvantaged geographically which gave General Tay’s army the upper hand to win without breaking a sweat.

It was rumored that he had won his first battle at the age of sixteen. It was also rumored that he was a highly skilled speaker. Not only was he good in battle, he was also extremely talented in persuasion. His men followed him with loyalty and they believed in his mission—to reunite the four regions as one.

After their loss, General Bac's army became a part of General Tay's army—making it even stronger.

It took another ten years for General Tay to conquer the East and the South. It was easy for him to infiltrate the other two groups since there were people within those groups that also believed in his cause.

My father, General Nam, was the last to lose. He fought a good fight but he was no match for a military genius.

In losing, each General was to offer one daughter to General Tay to become his new bride.

As it stood, I was to become his third one.
