Money Is Love
Standing on stage, I hear them call my name. I had done it! I won! I look at my trophy and crown and smile big. The man then hands me money. It was only after we packed up and we're on our way home that I understood why.
"Mama, why did the man give me money?" I ask.
"Because, Baby, that is what happens when people love you. The judges didn't love the other girls as much, so they didn't get any." Mama answers.
"Isn't it sad for the other girls?" I ask.
"Well, the judges can't love everyone. Besides, if they had worked harder, the judges would have loved them too." Mama says.
I want everyone to love me. That means I have to work really hard. I have to work harder than everyone else. When they love, they will give me more money. That is how I will know for sure.
If she really loved me she would have given it to me. It isn't fair. It isn't fair! I let her work my table for free. I let her sleep on my floor for free! I did everything I could for her! She should love me! I still can't believe she left.
Now, I don't know how I will pay my rent. Around three months ago, I was talking to a free palm reader in the park. She told me I would make money, but not from my table. I immediately realized that I would win the lottery.
The gods and spirits love me. They will give me luck. So after several months, I spent my whole savings trying to win. Now, I don't know what to do. If Ceres would have just given me my money, then everything would be fine. But no, she wouldn't do it. I can't understand why she can't love me.
