Prologue
Team Darkoss II
Wrath of the Dark Dragons
By: Michael Wydock
Many years ago before the rise of men, the earth was inhabited with stranger beings. Creatures unlike any. The Dark Dragons were many. These beasts were not like ordinary dragons of this age. The race of the Dark Dragons were magical, shape-shifting and powerful beings of the dark arts. However, legends say that when the gods decided it was the time for men and elves to arise, the Dark Dragons refused to die out. And so, the Black and White Dragon was created. It was this new creature’s duty to wipe out the entire race of the Dark Dragons. As soon as its mission was completed, the Dark Dragons were no more and the time for men and elves alike had come. And the Black and White Dragon flew back up to the heavens, never to be heard of again.
“Hm. That’s interesting.” Said a man as he read it on a stone tablet within a dark and abandoned castle. The man being six feet tall, wearing silver armor that covered only half of his body. A bright orange cape he wore on his back. His shoulder pads being silver with orange trims along the edges. His gauntlets, however, were colored all orange. He didn’t wear chainmail under his armor but a leather unitard. His eyes were different colors as well as his hair. His eyes were red and purple while his hair was red and black. Nexus Von Forte was his name. He put back on his helmet which looked almost like a roman centurion helmet with the red plume on the top turned sideways. However, this helmet also had a long horn attached to the front and a mask to cover his nose and mouth making it more difficult for his enemies to identify him.
“What was that?” He said as he turned his attention towards a long and dark hallway. Nexus armed himself with a massive sword. The blade of the sword was coated with an orange trim that was covering most of the blade and a beautiful, glittering orange pommel in the cross guard.
“Whose there?” He shouted down the hallway. But all he heard was his own echo. A flock of bats came out from the darkness and flew right over Nexus which startled him. He ducked as the bats flew out into the night through the large gap where the ceiling should have been.
“Damn bats.” He yelled. He ventured deeper into the hallway. This building was old and falling apart. This dark castle had been abandoned for centuries. The fact that it was still standing was simply amazing. But Nexus didn’t care so much about the castle’s ancient history. He only had one goal in mind. He wasn’t too careful with his footing. He stepped onto a section of the stone made floor and it collapsed beneath his weight. He fell but quickly grabbed onto the ledge. He looked below him and it was nothing but pure darkness. His grip was slipping. He thought quickly and sank his blade into the floor. He then grabbed the handle of his powerful sword with both hands and pulled himself back up.
Nexus landed his feet safely onto the floor. As he looked back down, he thought to himself that he was lucky enough not to have fallen into the forever abyss. He must have a guardian angel looking after him he thought. Nexus pulled his sword up from the ground and continued onward. He exited the hallway and was greeted by an eerie setting. An old, rusty chandler hung high above him. An impressive grand staircase stood before him. Even though it was old and falling apart, it was still an impressive staircase. He gazed his attention to the top of the staircase and there he was.
Standing with his back facing Nexus was the man he had been looking for. Covered from head to toe in crimson red and black armor. His helmet was that similar to the helmet of the Dark Lord’s Armor Team Darkoss had discovered back in Dragons Tower a year ago. He wore a crimson red sash on his waist with a blackened symbol on it. Nexus couldn’t tell what the symbol was from where he was standing. However, his sash matched that of Nexus’s.
“Darkest.” Nexus called the man. Darkest turned around and faced him.
“Ah, Powerknight. I see you received my invitation.” Darkest said to Nexus in a rather deep pitch. Powerknight was Nexus’s other name his enemies refer to him by. As Darkest reached for his sword which was also massive in size and gold plated, Nexus spoke to him.
“I have followed you here. Now tell me why you have brought me here at once!” Darkest looked down upon him and laughed, standing with his sword in front of him. Both hands were on the pommel of the sword ready to grip the handle. The cross guard of Darkest’s massive sword was in the shape of a demon’s head.
“You don’t recognize this place do you? Take a good look Powerknight. This castle housed the ancient king that punished you by slaughtering your wife and child right before your very eyes!” Darkest said laughing psychotically. As Nexus looked around him, visions of his past suddenly came back to haunt him.
“You brought me here to torment me?” Said Nexus as he pointed the tip of his sword towards Darkest. Darkest just stood there and laughed.
“You dare mock me Darkest!?! I shall strike you down where you stand!” Shouted out Nexus as he leaped up onto the railing of the staircase. He ran up the railing and leaped off near the top of the staircase, trying his best to slice Darkest in half, however he missed. Darkest took his sword and ran up the other staircase as Nexus followed him up to the second floor of the castle. Nexus figured that Darkest was leading him into a trap, however this was not the first time Darkest had tricked Nexus.
Nexus had followed Darkest up the tallest tower of the castle which hardly had any roof left. Darkest had lead Nexus to the top room of the tower where Darkest had no escape.
“You’re trapped Darkest! There’s nowhere else for you to go. Give up!” But then Darkest did something Nexus didn’t even think he’ll do. Darkest had jumped off the ledge. Nexus ran towards the ledge to see him fall. Except Darkest had vanished before he hit the ground. Nexus was too confused for words. He looked back up into the sky but there was something odd that appeared in the sky. A portal had appeared in the sky and tried to suck Nexus right into it.
Nexus tried with all his might to walk away from the gust, but it was too strong. However, it did not suck him in, it was just weakening him, tiring him out. Chains suddenly spat out of the portal and wrapped around his arms. The chains gave Nexus a good shock and was weakened. Nexus fell to his knees as he dropped his sword to the ground. Upon losing his grasp on his sword and letting it fall to the ground, his armor disappeared and went back inside the pendent he wore around his neck. This was no ordinary armor. This was magical armor that was bestowed upon him by a fallen angel. His vision was blurry but only for a moment. He looked ahead of him and saw Darkest, accompanied by guards with spears and swords. The guards had seized their blades and surrounded Nexus. Darkest came to him and kneeled.
“Darkest? But how? I saw you fall.” Darkest laughed and explained to Nexus his little trick.
“Illusion can be a very useful method. You only saw what I wanted you to see. Now that I have captured you, and might I say it was all too easy, my master has special plans for you. You remember him don’t you? Our old king, Lord Kuru.”
“Impossible!” Nexus grunted. “Lord Kuru’s dead! That fool had been slain in battle long ago! Or so I heard.” Darkest waved his index finger in front of Nexus’s face.
“Oh no my old friend, Lord Kuru is alive. You’ll see for yourself soon enough.” Darkest stood back up. “Take him away!” As the guards lifted Nexus off the ground and escorted him out of the castle’s tower, Darkest looked towards the night sky, but only for a moment before leaving the tower.
