Chapter 1
The moon looks beautiful tonight so Nila can’t stop staring at it. There is a little worry in her heart. This feeling she had never felt before. Feelings of fear, anxiety, afraid, curiousity, a feeling that she couldn’t describe, all mixed together.
It all started with a letter that she found in her book a few weeks ago. The letter was nameless but its contents really made her stunned.
She crumpled the letter in her hand while sighing with her eyes fixed on the moon that shone brightly. Many stars were spread around making their light dimly illuminate the darkness of the night.
Dear Nila,
From the first time I saw you, for me you were different from the others. Maybe you will never believe this but trust me, at first I didn’t believe it either.
You may be surprised to read this but I don’t care anymore. I just want to express my feelings. I just want to be honest with you about everything I’ve kept for years.
I’m trying to get rid of that feeling, I’m trying to think that maybe I’m wrong. But over time, those feelings only got stronger.
I don’t know why everything about you makes me more attracted to you. Everything about you is so impressive and the more I try to stay away, the more I suffer because of it.
I never dared to approach you because I was too timid, I was too afraid that you would reject me. You’re so perfect and I’m far from it The more I get to know you, the more I realize that it turns out that all this time I don’t just like you, but more than that.
Everything about you makes me fall in love with you. You may think this is crazy but believe me Nila, I love you.
I decided to write this because soon we will be apart. To be honest it scared me. I know that after this, I will not see you again. You will have your way and so will I.
Nila, you are an amazing woman. Everything about you is so charming. You might think I’m stupid, but you’re all I want to spend my time with, only with you.
Nila, forgive me for being a coward. Forgive me because I love you. If later we part, always remember that I will never stop loving you.
The one that who always loves you
Don’t know for how many times she has read the letter, now the shape of the paper is even irregular. Every time she read the letter, it made her heart flutter and her cheeks flush red.
She leaned back in her chair while still holding it. Her other hand stroked her forehead gently. She looked like she was in deep thought.
To be honest she was digging into her memory. She has several male friends on campus, even at home she knows a few, but every time she tries to guess, none of them seem to be the sender of the letter.
All this time she had never thought about it. She only focused herself on studying, nothing else. Her mother is all that she has and she wants to make her happy.
Her father had died when she was still in high school. When she graduated from high school, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. Her life is only around her mother, campus and hospital.
Her mother needed her attention far more and she was all her mother had. It’s not that she doesn’t want to hang out or socialize with others but her mother needs her more than anything.
She was dazed with her gaze back at the moon until her mother’s cough from inside the room startled her. She gasped and hurriedly put the letter in her pocket and ran into the room.
“Are you okay, Mom?” She came over and sat on the edge of the bed.
Her mother nodded silently while holding back her cough. Nila took some water from the table and gave it to her.
After putting the glass back on the table then she lifted the blanket up to her mother chest then fixed the pillow gently.
“You’re still awake ?” her mother said softly
“I was reading a book” she said shortly
Her mother nodded and closed her eyes again. Nila remained there until her mother fell asleep and then after confirming that her mother had fallen asleep, she tiptoed silently out of there.
She put the letter in her drawer and lay down on the bed. She glanced at her watch, it was past midnight. She had to sleep, she cursed. Tomorrow there will be many things for her to do. Tomorrow she has to take her mother to the hospital.
That letter had distracted her a lot. She had to return to her senses. Her mother needs her. She mustn’t be swayed by that, Nila reminded herself.
Since her mother was sick, she had very little time to sleep. They don’t have much money. To help their finances, Nila sells cakes.
At first Nila didn’t have the confidence to sell cakes. It was her neighbor, Mrs. Amy, who discovered her talent. At that time when Mrs. Amy visited their house to visit her mother, she gasped when she ate the cake that was served.
“Who made this cake?” she said with twinkling eyes
“Nila made it. She often makes cakes.” Her mother said in a low voice while lying down
Mrs. Amy eyes moved towards Nila who was standing beside the bed “You made this?”
Nila nodded shyly without a word while squeezing her fingers.
“This cake is very delicious. I have an offer for you. Would you like to work in my shop?” she said directly
Nila and her mother looked at each other.
