Daniel’s POV

Mate Bond...A very special and sacred bond that is made by the Moon Goddess herself. Moon Goddess makes sure that there is a chosen one for every wolf. One that will love you unconditionally and protect you with their life.

I look out of the window and at the moon that shines in the sky, bringing light to the darkness. The trick however lies in finding your fated one. Some find their mates in the most unexpected way, as if world brought them together, like how I forced Kaden, the Alpha of our pack, to go to college and he found his mate on the very first day.

Turning around, I look at the naked male that slept peaceful on my bed. His long brown locks are scattered over his eyelids that hide his beautiful emerald green orbs.Or like how I find mine when he walked into our territory to relay his king’s message, peace treaty proposed by the Rogue King.

Smiling at the sight of my beloved, I let out a sigh in relief. Some however, spend their entire youth looking and some...never find theirs.I slowly walk over to the bed. Some are even stupid to let go off this beautiful treasure, this beautiful blessing from the Moon Goddess by rejecting their mates.

Rejection only breaks the wolves, either making them die inside or sending them on an aggressive and self destructive path. I have seen both. I have seen my sister go to the brink of death and I have seen my brother throw away and destroy everything he held dear.

I sit on the bed and lean back against the headboard, watching my destined one.I personally experienced the heartbreak it brings for my own mate had left me. Even though it was only for a few hours, I was already begging for death and craved physical pain that soothed my tormented soul.

My hand reaches out and brushes away his hair from his face. The brunette lightly stirs before holding my hand as a lazy smile forms on his face.Fortunately for us three, our mates returned to us, bringing us out of our despair but not all are this lucky.

Some lose their mates forever, either to another or to death. Thanks to Moon Goddess who made another way to help those poor souls. She made Marked Mates, a bond between two wolves that is formed by them by biting into the sweet spot on each other’s neck.I reach out and remove Luke’s hair off his neck to see the mark I had given him.

Marking, in both the bonds, is what seals the wolves together. My mate is from True Mate Bond and I marked him the day I woke up on the hospital bed. I don’t know what I would have done if he hadn’t returned that day... I probably wouldn’t have been alive then.

I slowly lay down beside my mate before glancing at the Moon through the window. It is said and heard though that in some special cases, Moon Goddess blesses a wolf with two mates. The second mate is called Second Chance. It is seen that in those rare situations, the wolf’s first mate had died but not all wolves are this fortunate. It’s a really rare chance to be this lucky. To get a second chance to happiness, to life.

Suddenly I feel Luke’s hand on my chest while his index finger traces one of the many scars I now carry for they refuse to heal. They were the gashes I received from silver scalpel and seeing how even Kaden’s scar is still there, I’m sure mine are not going away anytime soon.

“They look nasty...“, my mate comments sleepily and I raise an eyebrow at him. “You looked much more better without them.”

“And whose fault is it that I got these?“, I teasingly ask as I wrap my arm around his waist and pull him closer.Luke, in an attempt to keep me away from the battle with rogues, had locked me up in a dungeon cell. He never expected a sadist rogue to find me instead and decide to cut me open to his heart’s desire.

The brunette looks up at me with his emerald green orbs shining in the moonlight that came from the window before averting his guilty gaze, “Don’t remind me of that... You know I’m sorry...”

I smirk before grabbing the back of his head and pulling his face into my chest, “Then stop bringing it up if you don’t want me to remind you~”

The male softly grumbles against my skin but I don’t mind and just enjoy the sparks that erupted from our touch. “Just go back to sleep. It’s not even 4 in the morning. Can’t you stop being the responsible Beta for once and just rest?”

I hum before burying my face in his neck, “If you’re in the bed, I would definitely stay in a bit longer.” Luke blushes and playfully smacks my shoulder before simply hugging me. I hold onto him close, soon listening to his even breathing as he goes back to sleep.

Pulling away from his neck, I softly smile at the treasure in my arms. My face slowly darkens as I think about how things could have ended badly. As I glance at his hand on a few of the many scars I’m covered in, I can’t help but be reminded of the feeling that keeps bugging me inside.

I feel I was supposed to die that day... That I cheated death.
