Epigraph
“Greetings, Salutations, and Guten Tag, I’m Emil, Emil Schiller, Medical doctor, Austrian (German speaking) War veteran, former doctor to and former friend of Adolf Hitler. I’m also first cousin to Magda Schiller, former mistress to said Adolf Hitler. I was asked by my friends to be a guide and narrator through certain events of the first half of the 20th Century, events dominated by Adolf Hitler, a person so unremarkably appearing it’s hard to believe he once was compared to Attila the Hun, Jack the Ripper, and Satan himself. The book is a novel based on fact with a “layer of fibs.”
“Hitler’s personality continues to challenge those who seek to answer one of the most intriguing questions in all of history: How was it possible for this strange little man, at once so banal and so terrible, to hold a great nation in a cruel yet popular tyranny and to conquer a continent? Did Adolf Hitler undergo some remarkable change of character as he grew from a feckless youth to a masterful dictator? If so, what brought about the change?”
Professor R. G. L. Waite, The Psychopathic God: Adolf Hitler
To paraphrase the good professor, “What brought about the change from a colorless little- man, a cipher, a nobody, a nothing, into a terrifying but charismatic Germanic Superman who almost wrecked the World? Some students of the brain believe it was a Covid 19-Like virus that caused not flu but “sleeping sickness” or von Economo’s encephalitis named for the neurologist who first it in 1916.
