First Blood
“Rem please!” I begged as I hid in the doorway of my flat. I had been hunting nightly trying to find a stray demon or angel willing to allow me to feed.
“I am sorry Sar. I can’t just give you any. I have to live too.” Remy said.
“How much Rem?” I asked in exasperation.
“Six hundred a bag.” Remy said.
“The fuck! How the hell is it that high?” I asked shocked.
“Sar it always has been, you and your family for it from the source. Us peons have never had that luxury.” He said his tone resentful.
“Fuck.” I said pressing my forehead against the door. I did not have a fifth of that.
“Sar? Have you eaten anything since that night?” He asked concerned.
“I am going to not answer that.” I said unlocking my door and locking it behind me. I kicked off my heels and fell onto the couch on my side.
“Sar...”
“I refuse Rem...” I said covering my eyes with my hand. He was silent for a long moment and I sighed “no...”
“You have been without blood for a week?” He asked shocked.
“Yes.” I said curling up on the couch. “Sorry I bothered you Rem.” I said pulling the phone from my ear.
“Sar!” He yelled.
“What Rem?” I asked my voice was as hollow as my veins felt.
“When are you going to sleep?” He asked with a sigh.
“No Rem! I am not putting you out.” I said.
“I...I have a friend. Yes she is human which I know you hate, but...but she is a virgin and has wanted to be bitten.” He said and I could hear the corners of his raise.
“No...not a human.” I said with a shiver. “They make my skin crawl.”
“You haven’t even been near humans that often! How do you despise them so much?” He asked with a laugh.
“They smell...” I said and nearly gagged.
“Was that fake?” He asked with a chuckle.
“No, very real.” I said with a smile.
“I will make you a deal. Let me bring her over, if she smells badly and you cannot deal with her, then I give you a free bag.” He said with hope in his voice.
“Rem...I...fuck...fine.” I said sighing. The Hunger was getting worse and soon I would be to weak to do anything. “Two hours then it will have to wait.”
“We will be there in thirty.” He said. I hung up and went to take a quick shower. I was in my bedroom trying to find a dress, when my phone rang.
I picked it up and saw it was Rem. “A change in plans?” I asked. I needed the blood but...I still did not like this whole thing.
“We made it early.” He said with a laugh.
“I am not dressed.” I said with a groan.
“Just throw on a robe, trust me she is not someone who is picky.” He said and I heard the knock.
“So much for first impressions.” I said hanging up and slipping on my black silk robe. As I passed my mirror, I saw my reflection. My face was thing from lack of any kind of food let alone blood. My flame red hair had lost its luster, in short I looked like shit.
I went down the stairs and opened the door. Rem stood there is his black duster, his brown beard well groomed as always as was his long curly brown hair. He frowned once he saw what I looked like.
“Fuck Sar!” He said pushing inside. Behind him came a slip of a girl her black hair hung down her back in long braids. Her eyes were covered with a black cloth. She wore a place white dress that hung off of her shoulders.
“Is she ok?” I asked confused.
“Yes I am fine. I told him that until you decided about possible future visits I would rather not see who you were.” She said with a smile.
“Come on Lily.” Rem said taking her hand. He guided her to the couch and sat her down.
“I...I am sorry.” I said with a sigh.
“No need to apologize. He told me what has happened and your preference.” She said.
I walked over and stood in front of her. “Why...why do you want to?” I asked.
“If I said because I have fantasized about it for ten years would you laugh?” She ask with a smirk.
“Romance novels?” I asked.
“Yes and vampire movies.” She giggled.
I shook my head and looked to Rem. “Hey I just brought her. You need, she wants simple as that.” He said with a laugh.
I sighed and knelt beside her. “I am sorry.” I said as I leaned toward her neck and sniffed.
“He told me. It is fine, I agree some of us humans smell horrible.” She said with a giggle.
I smiled and smelled again. It was hard to get anything. “Mind if I?”
“I am yours to move as you need.” She replied. I took a breath and suppressed a shiver, as I pulled her in my arms. I pressed my front against her back and leaned down smelling her neck. Still nothing, no smell at all.
“How?” I asked looking at Rem.
“Told you she would not smell bad.” He said with a smirk.
“She smells of nothing! That is not possible.” I said floored.
“I have a medical... anomaly. I do not create sweat. So no bad smell.” She said quietly.
“Ok...so next test.” I said taking another slow breath. I let my fangs lengthen slowly before bending down one more.
“Thank you.” She whispered. I bit into her neck and her taste flooded my mouth. At first it too had not taste other than the usual copper. I heard Rem slowly walked in front of us. I looked at him confused, when it hit me. The taste of angel, the sweet pureness flooded my senses and I moaned
My eyes went wide and he laughed. “I knew you would like her.”
I softly pulled off of her neck and licked my lips. “She...is a... Nephilim!”
“So...is that a yes?” Lily asked with a giggle.
“I...fuck...” I said letting her go slowly.
“Rem? Can you give us a minute?” Lily asked.
“You gonna be ok?” He asked.
“Yes I am not afraid of her.” Lily said.
He laughed and left my flat closing the door behind him. “I...I...” I stammered confused about how I felt. She reach behind her head and untied the cloth. She folded in her lap before turning to me.
She opened her eyes and I gasped, one of her eyes was pure gold the other a crimson red. “I am an anomaly in general. I actually have angel and demon blood in me.”
“I...I am so confused right now.” I said.
“I have been waiting for the perfect person to offer myself to. You see because of both bloods in me...my body is...killing itself.” She said with a sad smile. “Then Rem told me about you. I knew you needed me. I already talked to him about bagging my blood for you.”
“Why?” I asked shocked.
“I do not have long. They say three months at most. I do not want my life to mean nothing.” She said and a tear slid down her cheek.
“I can’t give you anything for your blood...” I said sadly. “I do not even have enough for regular food.”
She shook her head. “I do not want money Sarah. I...I just want to know who is benefit from me.” She said.
“I...do not like humans...” I said.
“I am not fully human, only a third.” She giggled.
I sighed and pulled my legs against my chest. “I still do not know.”
She reached into her pocket and pulled out a piece of paper. She handed it to me and I took it gently. I opened it to find her number. “Text me when you need me. Atleast until the bag come in. He promised he would not charge you.” She said with a smile. “Now do you need more? You look...rough.”
“I do, but I do not want to pull to much.” I said.
“Then, how about I come back tomorrow?” She asked.
“Let me think on it?” I asked. She nodded and reached up to my face. I pulled back and she laughed.
“You have some blood at your mouth.” Lily said with a grin. I licked at the corner but did not find it. “Please?” And I looked at her a moment and nodded. She reached up slowly and ran her thumb against the bottom edge of my lip.
“Thank you.” I whispered. She smiled and offered me her thumb and I sucked the blood off. “I must look a mess.”
“I think once you are fully fed, you will look as good as new.” She said before standing. “Text me if you would like me to come over tomorrow.”
I nodded looking at my hands. She quietly walked to the door and left. I picked up my phone and texted Rem.
Me:
Why did you not tell me?
Rem:
I did not want to color your thinking of her. I should have the first case of bag next week.
Me:
I...thank you.
Rem:
No offense Sar. It is not for you that I do this. It is for her.
I was no where near full, but it had been enough to sate the Hunger. I thought about making something to eat, but could not bring myself to get up. How was this slip of a girl, a creature born of three lines, the perfect meal yet my worse aversion at the same time?
I pulled up my phone and was just about to text Rem again, I hesitated. Would her really even listen to me? We had only ever been acquaintances with the one off time of lover. I scrolled my phone seeing the names of family that would never answer.
Then I happened on the number of someone who I had not talked to in a long time. She had broken my heart and I had not talked to her since. I closed my eyes and shook my head. I would not stoop that low, not when I was like this.
I felt the paper in my hand and I sighed. I put her number in with the name of Blood Lily. “What would you like to know?” I sent and curled up on the couch to wait.
Blood Lily:
First, why do you hate humans?
Me:
Other than the smell?
Blood Lily:
Yes other than that?
Me:
They are crude and uncivilized.
Blood Lily:
You are not wrong.
Me:
I am sorry.
Blood Lily:
No, I understand, did you enjoy the blood?
Me:
Yes...it was a surprise.
Blood Lily:
Good, I hope what little you took helps.
Me:
It took the edge off. If...if you feel ok...I will be awake around noon.
Blood Lily:
I can be there are at one?
Me:
I will try to be more presentable.
Blood Lily:
Be comfortable. I do not care what you wear. You could be naked and it would not matter to me.
Me:
I doubt you want to see me naked. I am far to thin right now.
Blood Lily:
Then please feed correctly. That is why I offered.
Me:
Ok, promise me you will not allow me to take to much.
Blood Lily:
I will tell you. I will also bring a snack for us both.
Me:
You do not have to.
Blood Lily:
I want to, sleep good Sarah. Oh can I ask what did you put me as in your phone?
Me:
Blood Lily...
Blood Lily:
Yours is Crimson Sarah.
Me:
Why?
Blood Lily:
Your hair, I bet it looks beautiful when you are full strength
Me:
So I was told.
Blood Lily:
Well, hopefully I will get to see. Sleep well Crimson Sarah.
Me:
Good night Blood Lily.
I sat there frowning at our messages. What in the hell was going on? I shook my head and got off the couch. I walked up the stairs and realized the door was unlocked. I went back down and locked it before heading to my room. I stripped out of my robe and got under my sheets.
I pushed the events out of my head and thought about the upcoming reading of the will. I hoped I would get something or else I would have to get a job...with people.
I shivered and closed my eyes with a yawn. I hoped that Rem would come through. I did not have the stomach to deal with humans at large. Trying to feed off of them? Not likely. I closed my eyes and slipped into sleep.
