Prologue
Adalyn POV
Have you ever had a dream that felt real?
So real that when you felt something, or someone touched your hand, and then when you wake up and can still feel that touch, lingering.
I've felt like that my entire life.
I felt so alone then, but it's different now... so very different.
Yet, since arriving in this strange world, filled with powerful and dangerous people, and monsters at every corner of this world who would love to eat me, I haven't dreamt a single time.
What's more, I think the reason for that was not where I was, but who I was with.
I didn't need to look to see who it was laying beside me, as the familiar heavy arm lay over my stomach, and from looking down at my feet, I saw him hanging off the edge.
Him... the reason I was in this world, and the reason why I may never feel alone ever again.
It wasn't by choice... no, in my case, I had none but to accept my 'fate'.
"Good morning... beautiful." His deep rumbling voice sends shivers down my body, making me flinch as he moves to be closer to me.
I struggled against his hold and groaned out when he wouldn't budge. "C...Caesar, you're too heavy."
I needed to pee so badly, and while I had only been here a week, this has been my daily morning routine, finding him in 'my' bed.
I moved to glare at him, but the moment I laid my eyes on him, I almost forgot why I hated him, as his beautiful face looked up at me as he leaned on his palm, his golden yellow eyes holding me captive.
"My apologies." He smiled handsomely at me, removing his hand. "How did you sleep?"
I pulled my eyes away from his and almost scoffed, as I jumped down from the bed as if I was laying in a bed full of lava.
I couldn't be near him, it complicated things.
"Just great." I rolled my eyes, walking over to the door connecting to the bathroom.
"I love when you invade my personal space, and then try to kill me with your smothering," I said sarcastically, before shutting the door behind me and locking it.
I could hear his laugh from behind the door, and just like that... I almost forgot the situation I was in.
The situation I was practically summoned into, the situation that has turned my life upside down since the moment I first got here, and opened my eyes.
I wasn't on earth anymore, if anything, where I was didn't exist to humans, no, where I was, was a place only powerful sorcerers lived, an advanced species that looked like humans, spoke like humans, but there was something about them that made them stand out from the average 'human'.
Their eyes glowed bright, with different colours depending on their status and title within their society, and most importantly, the one I found more distracting than the eyes... was their ability to use magic.
My time here this past week has been an eye-opener to this world, and all its wonders and beauty, but most of all, to one man in particular.
The man called Caesar, also known as my Eunuk in this world... my 'destined mate'.
Flashback
I got home to find my ex-boyfriend at my doorstep, 'Charlie' and I had broken up because once again, after dating someone for more than a year, it never works out.
Charlie was a fireman, and while we connected and I felt like one day I could marry him, once that one-year mark hit us, it was like I couldn't be in the same room as him, without being disgusted with myself.
"Adalyn, please just talk to me." Charlie begged as I walked to my apartment door.
My stomach churned just being near him, and as much as I wanted to apologize for hurting him, I physically couldn't.
It was almost like someone, or something was controlling my body, urging me to get away from him.
"It told you not to come here... Charlie." I forced out, struggling to get my key inside the door, as my heartbeat started to rise, and my head started to hurt.
It hurt just to be near it, it made me want to throw up.
"Adalyn I don't understand what's going on," Charlie said, standing behind me as I managed to open my door.
I didn't understand either, what I did was that I had to stop talking to him, or it'd only feel worse, for him and me.
"I bought a ring, Adalyn, I was going to ask you to marry me." He said, as I got inside my apartment and then turned to look at him.
Charlie was holding out an opened box, with a beautiful diamond ring inside, it was perfect in every way possible, but... I could feel my stomach churn at the thought of marriage with him now.
There was nothing with Charlie, he was sexy, handsome, smart and kind, he treated me like a princess... he was the perfect man.
It was me, there was something wrong with me.
"Don't come here again." I pulled my eyes from his and looked away, closing the door without looking back at him.
I wanted to cry, to feel sorry for him, to feel anything more than what I was currently feeling...
What was wrong with me?
It's not just with Charlie, every time I date someone and it gets serious, one year later I can't physically be near them anymore.
At first, I thought it was just a fear of commitment, and at first, I really tried to stay, but I got so sick and poorly I had to be rushed to the hospital.
There was nothing wrong with me, mentally and physically, yet it didn't stop, it didn't go away, and as badly as I tried to not make things serious with any man, it was too hard with the thought of always being alone.
Once I slipped my shoes off and walked into my living room, a sudden flash of flight was flickering inside my bedroom from down the hall, making me freeze and stare.
Was someone inside... w... what do I do?
I reached for my bag that had my phone in it, but the moment I bent down, the headache I got from seeing Charlie had gotten worse, so bad that I struggled to keep my eyes open and stay up straight.
When I finally opened my eyes again, seconds later, I looked down the hall and almost screamed at what I saw.
A handsome man dressed in strange armour and a large cloak reached his hand out towards me as I sat on the floor, my vision blurring as his hand got closer, and closer to me.
'Adalyn...'
The man called to me, his voice soothing my tense body, making my headache go away but replacing that feeling with one much stronger... like it was 'suggesting/ me to sleep.
The last feel was the coolness of his hand, and how comforting it felt as everything went black, and my body became light.
Flashback over
I woke up in a strange room lit with candles, and hooded figures standing all around a giant circle that I was inside of, with a single man standing above me.
He called himself Caesar.
He told me I was his Eunuk and that he had brought me to Nomu.
That was the day my life would be changed forever, as I learned a day later that there was no going back to my normal life.
I was stuck here, forever, in a new strange world, with even stranger people.
