Chapter 1 (Me and my family)
My name is Aminat Joy Ogunmodede and I am from Nigeria.
I am 33years old, a high school graduate and a hairstylist.
I came out from a polygamous family where my father has six wives but he's only Left with two now:)
While I was growing up, at the age of 19-20 ... Then I started realizing men with more than one wife really do not know what they want but just their selfishness.
They're only getting married to as many as they can for just their own good but not for the family they are creating.
We are five in numbers that my mum gave birth to and I am the second born... and as the second born, I have been the one taking care of my family responsibilities as my senior one asn't been able to do so. And when I say taking care of my family, I meant from my mother's side.
Although not that I have much with me but god has not been Disappointing ever since I've been putting in that position and I am thanking God for that. This isn't the case for now but I am still coming back to it :)
First of all.. I'm going to start my story with my mother because she's the one who has been there for me right from time although I have my dad too but My mum as always been the one providing our needs even if she does not have at that moment.
My dad as well is always getting our back but really do not know how to provide for his children so we are used to it so we never care.
So while I was in my grade nine then I have started knowing what is wrong and right. I was seventeen or eighteen then if I am not mistaking so I have been able to look into my mum and dad's face 👀 and know Who's wrong and right because believe me when I say this that my mum and dad are the most strictly human being I have ever came across in my life .. although they are getting old now but it's still in them.
So like I said earlier that in my grade nine that I made a decision of helping my mother as she's been the only one taking care of I and my younger Ones. So I decided to stop going to school and start working atleast to be helping her out but she refused and say to me on that day that "YOU HAVE TO FINISH YOUR GRADE TWELVE AND NEVER SHOULD TALK ABOUT IT AGAIN!!
I felt so bad and started crying knowing what she's going through but she still Denied my offer.....
I cried throughout that day that I couldn't eat at school till I got home. She came back from the market that day and then called and said to me that... "I DON'T WANT YOU TO MISUSE THIS OPPORTUNITY YOU HAVE". Then I understand what she was trying to say because then, I was on scholarship at school. As matter of fact, I was given a scholarship throughout my school until the time of the man that gave me scholarship went on a demise.
I was given the scholarship since my grade three and the man went on his demise when I was in grade eleven so i dropped out at grade eleven as i couldn't sponsor myself and my mother was the only person that has been sponsoring my junior ones and i wouldn't want to burden her with mine as well.
So after three months of the man went on demise, I then Went back to my Mum and discussed with her what I told her about when I was in grade nine about me dropping out to help her.
"You see, i know you have been trying to help me but Aminat! Have you think twice about this? Because i don't want anything to burden your education or future" So i was asked on that day and i said YES:)
Although.... She gave me a permission of learning new thing then when i firstly discussed about dropping out from grade nine.
"YOU HAVE TO FINISH YOUR GRADE TWELVE AND NEVER SHOULD TALK ABOUT IT AGAIN!!!! but you can go register for a Hairstyling school" which i did then.
So after i went for the registration, the woman and my mother then asked "Will you be able to cope with your education while doing something like this?" And i answered YES..
So i registered three years class of hairdressing apprenticeship (Part time).
So here is how i do it should be incase you are thinking of how. Anytime i came back from school then, i immediately do the assignment i was giving after lecture, arrange for the next day studies, take my bath and get ready for work.
I started doing my part time apprenticeship from my grade nine till the man that gave me the scholarship at my school demise, then i was in grade eleven at school. So i started full-time apprenticeship at grade eleven as i dropped out.
Never forget that "THERE IS NOTHING YOU CANNOT ACHIEVE IF OR WHEN YOU ARE DETERMINE...
