Chapter 1: I'll Never Forgive You For That
Eli’s POV
I no longer feel the darkness as I hold on to Hannah’s waist, steadying her from falling over, but I’m so drained myself I can barely think straight other than my girl came for me. She’s really here.
“Leaving so soon?” I hear that bitch say before Chaim jumps in front of Hannah.
Even before I can register what the fuck is happening, I’m three feet away from where I was once holding Hannah. As her scream pierces the air, I watch her demon-filled eyes accept her fate. As her body flies into the wall, she manages to send Lilith and Elizabeth to God knows where because they’re no longer in this room. Hannah’s body crumples, lifeless on the ground.
“How was that even possible?” Chaim yells as he runs to Hannah.
“No. No. No. I just got you back!” I cry as I fall to my knees next to Chaim.
“Fuck! We can’t let her sacrifice be for nothing, son. We need to go now!” Lucifer yells, and he shakes my shoulders.
I’m shaking as I watch Chaim pick up Hannah’s body. She’s not breathing. “Can I hold her? Please?” I beg.
Chaim nods slowly as he shifts her into my arms. “In my vision, I was supposed to die, not her. This was supposed to be me,” he cries as he walks through the portal.
I follow behind him and sink my knees into the ground, sobbing into Hannah’s neck. She has no pulse but still feels warm. This isn’t real. This is all a dream. It has to be.
The wolves who rescued Willow and me all howl, probably crying for Hannah. I sit up and thread my fingers through Hannah’s. “Lucifer, why are the wolves here?”
His eyes are burning brighter than ever as he looks at me sympathetically. “Because Hannah was their Alpha. They’re honoring her.”
“Hannah’s a wo-”
“Where is she?!” I hear somebody yell before Lucifer turns around and runs into the guy. Lucifer grabs the back of his head and pulls him into a hug.
“You think I don’t know something is wrong with my mate. Let me see her,” he demands before shoving Lucifer aside.
“Jonathan,” Lucifer warns before walking towards me.
A black wolf on the other side of Hannah begins whimpering, which the guy seems to notice.
“So my brother said she died saving you,” he spits out with disgust as he stares me down.
“I tried to save her, but she stopped it. Jonathan, I don’t know how, but she messed around with time. I knew the exact moment I was supposed to die. A split second later, Eli and I were across the fucking room,” Chaim explains while I still hold Hannah’s hand.
“Did you see her eyes?” I ask Chaim, and he nods slowly.
“She became her worst nightmare,” Lila sobs.
“I suggest you move the fuck away so I can examine her,” he demands.
“No. Do what you have to do, but I don’t want to leave her yet,” I whisper, out of breath. “This can’t be fucking real.”
“Eli, I would move,” Lucifer warns.
“Yeah, listen to Daddy. He knows more than you do,” he chuckles darkly.
“Jonathan, enough!” I watch Lucifer’s eyes darken, and Jonathan growls like a rabid animal as he sits beside the black wolf.
I watch as he wisps his fingers in the air, looking more like a lunatic than me while I’m still holding my dead girlfriend’s hand.
“What in the fuck happened?” He growls as he uses a claw from his finger and slices open her shirt. He peels back the shirt to reveal the same mark Elizabeth gave me.
His hands are on my shoulders instantly as he gapes down at my chest. “How is your mark gone?”
“I don’t know. Hannah said there was too much demon blood inside of me and that whatever she couldn’t fix, Jonathan could. You’re Jonathan, but what in the hell are you?” I ask, confused.
“Is that true, brother?” Jonathan turns his head as the black wolf whimpers again.
“Fuck!” Jonathan yells as a gust of wind picks up. The black wolf next to him starts growling at him to calm him down.
So he’s a wolf and an angel. Is that what Hannah is? I stumble back, letting go of Hannah’s hand. “What in the fuck are you?”
“I pity you because you don’t know a damn thing about what has happened here since you’ve been gone,” he mutters before picking Hannah up in his arms. “Honestly, I was hoping we’d meet differently. I knew you’d hate me at first, but with Hannah’s neverending hope, she said it would all work out in the end, but all I feel for you now is hate because she died saving you. You were the last to touch her alive, and I’ll never forgive you for that.”
“I told her not to save me. I told her to kill me!” I yell, furious at her selfless act. My heart breaks as I whisper, “I can’t live in a world without her in it.”
Jonathan turns his head to look at me. “Neither can I.”
