I never wanted to be in the middle of a war between heaven and hell. Heck, I never wanted to be noticed by my religion teacher and I certainly never wanted to be kidnapped on my first day of school.

let's start from the beginning when I had to start going to public school. my mother just got a new job, which took up most of her time, so she couldn't stay home with me. To say I was overwhelmed was an understatement. People were walking through the halls, chatting and laughing loudly. Some were in big groups, some were only with a person or two. The first bell rang and everybody started leaving the halls and going to various classrooms. I, however, had to go to the front office to get my schedule and get a map to help me navigate the school.

I eventually found the office, which was surprisingly far from the front of the school. The room had large glass windows that allowed you to see the people inside. I entered through the large French doors and walked to the front desk. The lady looked up at Me through her thinly framed glasses and smiled brightly.

"Hello dear, what can I do for you?"The lady asked.

"I'm Miria, I'm here to get my schedule and stuff," I said quietly, pursing her lips into a halfhearted smile.

"Miria! Oh, I heard about you darling, come along" the lady said standing and motioning for Miria to follow. " I'm Mrs. Jays, You can call me DJ though". Okay, that's a bit weird, I thought. I followed "DJ" to the black door in the corner of the room where she stopped to pull out a ring of keys. The women rustled with the pieces of metal for a second before unlocking the door and stepping in. The room had boxes lining the walls and shelves completely. DJ headed to the section that said student records.

I got my schedule and looked it over to find that I have Religions first. It's on the second floor. I made it to the class about ten minutes late and hesitated at the door. If there was one thing more terrifying than starting public school, it was being late to class. I braced myself and opened the door slowly before entering the room. The eyes of the other students weighed heavily on me as I looked at the teacher expectantly.

"You must be Miria," the man said, sounding bored. "Take the empty seat in the back". I did as I was told, and was overly aware of the gazes following me to the back row. I sat and listened to the teacher's instructions. " As I was saying, today is a work day, you will be reading the article and answering questions based on the reading," he said as he passed out packets." you will have them turned in by the end of class".

When I got mine, I read the title and frowned; The Battle Of Destiny. This was a controversial subject of a battle between the angels and demons that was fated. I started reading the article :

The Battle Of Destiny is a war that supposedly started because the demons stole the child of the angel Devina and the daemon Egnatius, the angel of Divinity and Flames, and placed her on earth so she could not destroy the underworld as prophesized. The Angels would search for the daughter of Devina for fifteen years until one party, angels or demons, would find and influence her choices. Whoever had the halfling on their side would have an automatic advantage with her foresight and hellfire.

The article was only three pages long, so it did not take a long time for me to finish and answer the questions. Once I was done I did what the others were doing and placed my packet in the first basket on the table by the door. I caught a girl staring at me on my way back to my seat. She didn't even look away when she was caught, instead, her gaze became sharper, her grey eyes piercing their way underneath my skin. At the end of class the teacher, who she learned was called Mr. Azar, told me to meet him after school to get some makeup work, as she joined a few weeks into the semester.

After school, I headed to my first class and was about to enter the room when I heard Mr. Azar talking to someone. He shifted the books in her arms as she listened.

" I Found her, she's at the school", there was a pause," she's not gonna trust me, she just met me. Fine. Bye". I wondered who he was talking about, but it was none of my business, so I ignored it and knocked on the door before opening it and stepping into the room.

"Hey, you said to stop by to get my makeup work" I almost questioned. Mr.Azar nodded and grabbed a large folder off of his desk.

" This is the work, you have until November 20th to get this all in. I suggest starting with the first assignments, the class is cumulative" he explained to me, looking at me in an almost curious way. I nodded in confirmation that she understood and her teacher continued. " what made you join public school, Miria".

"My mother got a new job and isn't going to be around that much so I can't be homeschooled anymore" she answered quietly. Why did it matter?

" I'm sorry Miria," He said.

I looked at my feet and asked "Why are you sorry, you didn't do anything"

" I'm about to," he said and I looked up at him I started to lose feeling in my legs and I fell to the floor. My arms followed and my books tumbled out of my arms. the last thing I remembered was him saying "Time is up".
