Chapter 1
Here we are having dinner with friends as usual. The same friends, same restaurant, same everything. Sitting next to my husband barely listening to him talk about the same things he always does. I’m uncomfortably bored. Lately I've realized it's just not enough anymore. I miss the excitement and passion of my 20s. Turning 30 seemed unbearable but now at 34 I feel invigorated. I feel like I’m ready to take on the world. I neeeed this chapter of my life to end!
Lost in thought, I suddenly get the sense someone’s watching me. Of course it’s no one at our table; they're all too caught up in themselves. No, this is different. I can feel his eyes on my back. I turn briefly and immediately recognize the eye candy I spotted on the way in. His eyes catch mine and it’s as if he can see into my soul. Tall, dark, mysterious, and obviously confident. He’s everything my husband isn’t yet he feels just as familiar.
As I turn back to the table my husband notices my smile. Of course the one time he notices me tonight. “What has you smiling?” he says. I don’t answer him. I doubt he really cares but I do like the idea of him being jealous. The mix of his jealousy and the vibes I’m getting from across the room are an intoxicating combination. But how long can I just sit here and enjoy it? Do I keep my head down and pretend that the man sitting next to me is still enough? Or do I excuse myself and see if the mystery man follows?
I wonder what she will decide to do. I’m hooked and will carry on reading.
