Chapter 1

🦇Ravenna Omen🦇

I never thought my life could turn in such a different direction that could alter my future...

I walked the halls of my castle alone with my thoughts of the impending war against the werewolves and my grief over my mother. Queen Donnalea, my Mom, was murdered two weeks ago by a werewolf. The werewolves said it was a rogue, they had no control of what the rogues do. To my Dad, King Griffin all werewolves are the same no matter if they are rogue or not, nonetheless it caused pain, my Mom was Dad’s whole world and mine too.

King Griffin, is the protector of all vampires, he is a ruthless killer and will make his prisoners suffer. Dad, is known to all species, excluding humans as the ‘Infamous Vampiric King’. No human knows of us and our existence in the woods of northern Maine. If a human had knowledge of us, we had two options to use 1.) they were to be brainwashed of their family and become one of us or 2)they were to be instantly killed. It was rare but it has happened, and there is no telling what a war between us and the werewolves could do to the human world.

I found myself wandering towards the King’s study. I stood outside the large pinewood double door, as I heard Dad yelling at who? about what? I don’t know, all I know is that there is another person in there and has made Dad angry. I stood outside the room, for what felt like an eternity, the door opened and solemn-faced General Kane came out

“Evening, Your Highness.” Kane bowed his head before walking away

Dad was sitting at his desk, looking exhausted, he has not been the same since Mom’s death, he is now distant rather than what he was like when I was growing up. I stood in the doorway waiting for his permission to enter. When he saw me, he smiled slightly, but a smile as he sat down

“Come in, Ravenna.”

I walked in, closing the door behind me and taking the seat across from Dad

“You usually don’t come visit me, while I’m here in the study, Rav. What brought you here today?”

“I came to discuss me.”

“What about you?”

Does he really not know? I bring this subject up a lot.

“I came to discuss my imprisonment in the castle unable to go outside, to fly, to soak up the moonlight. Why can’t I go out? just for a few minutes? Is it necessary for me to be locked up inside?”

Dad looked at me sympathetically “Ravenna, we’ve been through this countless times...I cannot risk the life of my heir, my daughter. I cannot lose you to those wolves, like I lost your Mother, my Queen. Those wolves are dangerous, extremely destructive and deadly.”

Sighing, I stood up “If that is the case, then I shall not ask anymore but you do have to realize that this is the 21st century and no longer the 19th century.”

“I know what century we’re in Ravenna! that does not change how us vampires are to raise our children. Now get out!” Standing up, he pointed to the door “I have no time for you anymore.”

I left my brooding Father and walked to the only room I could escape into a whole other world, a room filled with comfort, a room that looked like it was taken out of Beauty and the Beast. A pair of Guards opened the set of double doors, as the scent of books hit me. I sat down with one in hand, on a window bench full of pillows of all different sizes.

I stared down at the words on the pages, yet I couldn’t read it, I couldn’t escape into another world. Setting the book down next to me, I looked out the window into the garden. As my eyes wandered over the white roses that shone by the moonlight, a pair of golden eyes met mine. Growing up, we were all taught that the Royals of the Rugged Mountain Pack all had different shades of yellow, orange and gold eye color.

Quickly, I drew the curtains, my heart racing not of fear but a different emotion. After a few minutes, I peaked outside the eyes were gone. When I looked into those eyes, I felt comforted... it’s weird to say that but it’s true. If a Royal Wolf is here, that could only mean one thing and I don’t think I’m ready for that possibility.

If only Mom was still here, we wouldn’t be on the verge of war with the werewolves.

Not only will this war disrupt the way we and the werewolves live, it’ll disrupt all the supernatural beings or even worse the human realm. Many of the King’s advisors have told him not to go to war for fear of this possibility, does he listen? No. Dad is so grief-stricken, nothing and no one can stand in his way or persuade him. Mom, was his steady hand, I- I can’t be that to him, I can only be the daughter he pushes away.

If I could turn back time and prevent Mom from going to the Council of Queens, everything would be alright.
