Days 1 & 2

Along through the shadows creeps a beast of a man. An outcast Werewolf from a local pack. Having traveled far in search of a home, food, and, perhaps, a suitable mate, he has stumbled upon the most perfect living region he can think of. A new little farming community who’s population is currently 177 counting the farm animals. Perhaps this is the place to lie low…or not. We will see.

As the Werewolf descends the hill he comes across a pig pen. A sow greets him cheerfully. Little does she know, his intentions aren’t quite so nice. Despite not owning the pig, he slashes it and it turns into assorted pork products.

“I can sell this and get some money to buy a house,” the Werewolf says, collecting all the pork into his inventory.

He walks further into the farm land and comes across a market place. Here, he meets with a woman. She’s rather beautiful, but the Werewolf is here to sell the stolen pork products. He reveals his pork to her.

“Hmmm? Where did you come from?” the woman asks.

“Buy my pork. I need money,” the Werewolf prompts.

“Okay,” the woman says and gives the Werewolf a single dollar.

“No, no, buy all of it. Not just one chunk,” the Werewolf says, slightly annoyed.

“Well, that is a lot of meat. But okay,” she says and gives him 61 more dollars.

“Thanks!” the Werewolf says, handing over all of the pork.

After handling the meats, the Werewolf has become bloody. The pig blood is gross and slimey on his hands and hairy arms. He walks away, $62 in his pockets. Next being he comes across is one of the she-cats that roam around eating mice.

He transforms into a wolf and stands beside the cat. The cat hisses, frightened by the beast. The Werewolf, however, doesn’t harm the cat as he did the pig. Instead, he lowers his head and laps water from a nearly frozen puddle the cat has been drinking.

“That’s my water!” the cat hisses.

“Well, I’m thirsty,” the Werewolf argues. “Would you rather I drink your blood to satisfy my thirst?”

“No…” the cat says.

“Very well. Leave me be,” the Werewolf says.

The puddle water isn’t very clean, but at least it has temporarily satisfied his thirst. Hopefully he doesn’t get too sick from the dirty water. He lifts his head after awhile and sighs happily. Most of the puddle is gone now.

Night will be falling soon. The Werewolf will need a place to stay. Luckily, there is an inn nearby. A big fluffy sheep dog notices the Werewolf and starts barking in alarm.

“What do you want, fluff ball?” the Werewolf asks with a snarl.

“GO AWAY! LEAVE! THIS IS NO PLACE FOR MONSTERS!” the dog barks.

“I could use a coat. My own fur isn’t that thick,” the Werewolf remarks.

Before the sheep dog can react, the Werewolf draws a pair of scissors. SNIP! One snip and the sheep dog is sheered! The dog barks in surprise, shivering in the cold. Then, to add to the insult, the Werewolf blankets the fur coat over himself in front of the dog.

“There! Much better! Now I’m plenty warm!” the Werewolf says with a grin.

“I’LL REMEMBER THIS! YOU’VE MADE AN ENEMY OUT OF ME!” the sheep dog barks angrily.

The sheep dog runs away to hide in shame. This time of year, the sun sets early. The Werewolf waltzes off to the inn. Before entering, he becomes a man again and the first coat changes to fit him. Inside of the inn, a man greets him.

“Heya, welcome to the Farm Inn!” the guy says, warmly.

“I need a place to stay. How much can I get for $62?” the Werewolf inquires.

“$60 gets you three nights. We charge $20 a night,” the guy says.

“Better than nothing,” the Werewolf says with a sigh.

With money exchanged, the Werewolf takes up residency in one of the little inn rooms. It’s a nice little spot with a comfy bed, a rickety shower, a toilet, and a dresser with a candle. 3 days…that’s all he’s got to make more money to stay longer. Perhaps he can make this work…

The Werewolf sleeps the night. It’s new moon, so he sleeps soundly. Had it been full moon, he’d likely have gotten up and slaughtered some innocent people. When he awakens, he finds it to be early morning just before sunrise.

“I need a shower, I stink…” the Werewolf says.

He goes and takes a shower. The water is very cold. Shivering, he puts his old dirty clothes back on. He hasn’t any fresh clothes.

His stomach grumbles loudly. He hasn’t eaten anything in awhile… The Werewolf exits the inn and begins to search for food. Having only $2, he decides to search elsewhere for food…

The Werewolf happens upon the hen house and sneaks inside. The hens are all asleep on their nests. Quietly, he grabs the third hen from the entrance and swallows her whole. The hen thrashes wildly, but she cannot escape.

“Ahhh, that was satisfying…” the Werewolf says and leaves as the other hens are freaking out.

Looking for some more money, the Werewolf slashes a ram. Immediately, it becomes a pile of assorted meats. He carries the ram meat into the market place. Much to his surprise, the innkeeper guy is here.

“Heya, can you please buy my meat?” the Werewolf asks, holding out the pile of meat.

“I’ll pay you $35 for that meat,” the guy offers.

“Okay, deal,” the Werewolf says.

The Werewolf now has $37 in his pocket. He’s stinky and dirty again, however. Working on the farm sure is messy! Looking around, he finds the hens have been let out of their house now and are enjoying fresh water from a sprinkler.

He walks a distance. Out of sight of the humans, he once again takes on his wolf form. He walks up and begins drinking water from the sprinkler. The annoyed hens glare at him, remembering that he ate one of them earlier.

“Mmmm, good water…” he mumbles, putting his mouth over the spout.

The chickens groan in annoyance. The thirsty Werewolf continues drinking and drinking until his belly is swollen and full of water. He lets go of the sprinkler, but by now, it’s time for it to shut off. He belches loudly, sitting upright in his wolf form.

“You stole our water!” one of the hens exclaims.

“I was thirsty,” the Werewolf grumbles. “But now, I’m satisfied. My belly is nice and full…”

The hen pecks him and walks away. The sprinkler water dripping from his muzzle helps wash some of the filth off of him. He lies down for a bit in the cold winter sun. He lies on his back, bulging belly in the air.

The Werewolf takes a nap until afternoon… When he awakens, it is snowing! He sneezes and sits upright, luckily nobody saw him sleeping in that weird position in his wolf form. Seeking more employment, he wanders about in his human form.

“Hey sir~!” a woman calls out, waving to the Werewolf.

“Mmm, heya!” the Werewolf greets her. “I’m looking for a job. Know of any?”

“Oh! Would you like to help plow my fields?! I have a bull here, but even with him, plowing the fields is hard,” the woman says. “But a strong handsome man like you should have no issue controlling such a large beast, right? Tee hee~!”

“I’ll do it!” the Werewolf says.

“Okay, this way!” the woman says.

The cowgirl leads the Werewolf to her field. A big bull with a plow is waiting. The cowgirl demonstrates how to work the yoke before passing the job to the Werewolf. The fields must be plowed and readied for spring crops!

“The old bull is fine with some snow, don’t worry about it. Okay, if you need anything, come get me!” the cowgirl says and blows a kiss teasingly.

“Will do!” the Werewolf says.

The Werewolf does his work. Gradually, the plow breaks the soil as snow continues to fall. The snow will, eventually, melt away. When it does, the crops will be thoroughly watered.

“If I can keep doing jobs like this…I might have a chance…” the Werewolf says.

The bull bellows, lashing his tail. He’s got his yoke on, he’s trained for this job, he’s not going to attack whomever has control of his yoke. The Werewolf can’t get the farm girl out of his mind. Perhaps SHE will be the one… First things first, he’ll need to establish a solid relationship.

Soon enough, the entire field is plowed. The Werewolf whistles a call. The cowgirl comes rushing over. She sees the plowed field and nods her head.

“You did a WONDERFUL job! Here! Five dollars!” the cowgirl exclaims.

“I did all of that for just $5?” the Werewolf asks, staring in disbelief.

“Well, sure. Unless you were plowing by hand. My bull did most the work, you just guided him,” the cowgirl says with a shrug.

“I’ll take it. $5 is $5,” the Werewolf says with a sigh.

“If you want more jobs, I might have more to offer you!” the cowgirl says, winking.

“What’s your name?” the Werewolf asks. “If I have the honor to know?”

“Haylee,” the cowgirl says.

“Nice to meet you. I’m Bear,” the Werewolf says.

Bear has $42 now. Perhaps he can get himself a new pair of overalls so he can wash the old pair. Bear walks away. Before long, it’ll be night again.

“I gotta go,” Bear says, wiping some sweat off his forehead.

“Where are you staying currently?” Haylee asks.

“At the Farm Inn. I just got here late yesterday,” Bear says.

“Ohhhh, okay. I hope to see you again!” Haylee says, grinning.

“I’ll be back, for sure,” Bear says with a wink.

Bear the Werewolf wanders off again. He happens upon the sheep pen. His stomach grumbles loudly again. Sheep are a wolf’s favorite food.

He hops into the pen easily. A particularly fluffy ewe is standing there, eating from the food trough. However, instead of killing the sheep, Bear merely sheers it with a slash of his hand. He uses the sheered off wool as a towel to dry his sweat before it can freeze to his body.

“Hey, not cool, man…” the ewe bleats, shivering.

“I needed that,” Bear says, stashing the now soiled wool away in his inventory.

Bear takes his leave. Before anyone can spot him, he hops back out of the sheep pen. He whistles cheerfully as he walks to the market again. One of the stalls happens to be selling new clothes.

For Sale: New overalls for $26 each, new shoes $64 for a pair big enough to fit Bear’s massive hairy feet, new shirts $16 each, new pants $66 each, new underwear $70 for 25 pairs, new hats $19.

“Buy something, will ya?” the clothes salesman invites. “I’m closing shop soon because it’s cold, snowy, and getting dark.”

“I only have $42,” Bear murmurs. “But I’ll buy a new shirt.”

“That’ll be $16!” the guy says.

Bear gives up $16. The new shirt is nice and clean unlike his current one. Bear waves goodbye and heads back to the inn with $26 and a new shirt in tow. Once he gets inside, he pays $20 to get an additional night. $6 remain in his possession and he changes into his new clean shirt after another freezing cold shower.

“This is life,” Bear mutters to himself.
