Chapter 1: Draconic Ascension

The echoes of their triumphant roars reverberated across the shattered landscape, a symphony of raw power and unbridled might. Judith and Vlekaris, once mere mortals bound by the constraints of flesh and bone, now stood as towering behemoths, their scales gleaming like polished obsidian in the eerie twilight.

Judith unfurled her massive wings, the membranes rippling like liquid shadow, and gazed upon the smoldering ruins that had once been the great city of Valorn. Fires still flickered in the distance, casting an ominous glow upon the crumbling edifices of a fallen civilization.

“Behold, my love,” she rumbled, her voice resonating like the tolling of ancient bells. “The dawn of a new era, one where the children of the Draconic Ascension shall reign supreme.”

Vlekaris, his imposing form radiating an aura of malevolence, drew closer to his mate. His golden eyes burned with an intensity that could melt stone, and his powerful jaws parted in a grin that revealed rows of serrated fangs.

“Indeed, my queen,” he replied, his deep baritone laced with a hint of dark amusement. “The mortals have been brought to their knees, their pathetic attempts at defiance crushed beneath our might. Let their ashes be a testament to the folly of those who dare defy the rightful rulers of this world.”

Judith’s tail lashed from side to side, carving deep furrows into the scorched earth. “They had their chance to kneel before us, to embrace the glory of the Draconic Ascension. But they chose defiance, and for that, they have paid the ultimate price.”

Vlekaris extended his wings, casting a vast shadow over the ruined city. “And so, the age of mortals comes to an end, their petty kingdoms reduced to rubble and ruin. From this day forth, the world shall tremble at the mere mention of our names.”

As if in response to his declaration, the ground beneath their clawed feet trembled, and a thunderous rumble echoed from the frozen north. Judith’s head snapped toward the source of the disturbance, her eyes narrowing.

“What trickery is this?” she hissed, her scales bristling with barely contained fury.

Vlekaris tensed, his muscles coiling like serpents poised to strike. “No mere mortal could possess such power,” he growled, his gaze piercing the shroud of darkness that enveloped the northern horizon.

From the depths of the frozen wasteland, a colossal figure emerged, its form obscured by swirling clouds of frost and ice. As it drew nearer, its true nature became apparent – a dragon of immense proportions, its scales the color of frozen glaciers and its eyes burning with an ancient, implacable fury.

“Ervakrix,” Judith snarled, her wings unfurling to their fullest extent. “The traitor has awoken from his slumber.”

Vlekaris bared his fangs, his tail lashing violently. “So, the old wyrm seeks to challenge our dominion? Let him taste the full fury of the Draconic Ascension!”

With a thunderous roar that shook the very foundations of the earth, the two dragons took to the skies, their wings beating with the force of a hurricane. Ervakrix answered their challenge with a deafening bellow, his icy breath crystallizing the air around him.

The battle lines had been drawn, and the fate of the world hung in the balance. For on this day, the clash of titans would echo across the ages, and the victor would shape the destiny of all that remained.
