Act I

Rosalind

Rosalind Daniels - that’s my name. I’m nineteen years old and if you didn’t already guess, I’m a werewolf.

I live in the university I go to because it’s a little far from my neighbourhood. I shouldn’t even be here. But I got lucky I guess. I got a scholarship to go here, the best university in the country.

I’m studying to be a lawyer. I’m not the best at defending myself I’m the school’s punching bag. Everyone picks on me, but I can’t blame them, they are rich, high-class and jaw-droppingly gorgeous, every one of them. All the women in my class make me look like a twelve-year-old boy. They have high cheekbones and the perfect figure, they even walk like models.

My pack is called the Blue Moon Pack. All the top pack members go to this school, even the Alpha’s brother goes here. So, being the nobody I am, I stick out like a sore thumb.

“Look Rosalind is lost in another daydream.” Sofia the prettiest girl in my class, and my number one enemy, was talking, she was probably making fun of me, as I was daydreaming.

“What?” I give her a confused and irritated look.

“She couldn’t even hear us.” She laughs with her posy of mean models. “She was probably imagining meeting her mate.” She mocked.

Oh yeah, I don’t have a mate. Everyone finds their mate as soon as they get their wolf at eighteen and I’m here, a year late. I try not to think about it too much but when you’re surrounded by mated wolves your wolf tends to get pretty lonesome not to mention that is the number one thing I get made fun of for.

I read about love in the novels, and I want a love story just like that. My mate had made me wait for him a whole year, he’d better make it up to me by being spontaneously romantic. I have read about it all: The Kiss of True Love, Secret Rendezvous and Dancing. In some of my best novels, they would waltz together and it would be this magical, romantic moment. When I find my mate I want our love to be just like the novels.

The school day drags on and on. I get more tired of school than usual. Usually, I enjoy the less social parts of school, but today I’m dying for it to end.

After the last class, I get a surge of energy and excitement. Every day after school I’d go to my private and special place. It was a little lake in the woods not far from the campus. Most wolves would prefer a wide expanse where they can run, feeling the wind in their fur and the ground beneath them.

I just like to sit against my favourite tree. That tree had become my best friend in this town of strangers and enemies.

I get out of class and walk down the steps. The campus is crowded with other students relaxing in the grass and hanging out with their mates before they leave. Once again, I feel lonely walking by myself. I get down the steps and head for the dorms to go put my books away.

Suddenly the most heavenly smell fills my nostrils, pine and cinnamon, it makes me feel like I’m walking on air, the source of this must truly be from heaven.

The Mate Scent!

I scan the campus but all I see are mated wolves. I trust my nose and follow the heavenly scent. I walk to a quiet pavilion where no one goes to. He can’t be here, no one ever goes here. I feel my hope slipping. As I walk on the floor of the pavilion, my footsteps echo.

I look around and freeze with excitement, there is someone here. He has his back to me. I don’t know what to say so I stand there looking awkward. After thirty seconds of deliberating I decide, a simple hello would do.

I open my mouth but before I can say anything he turns round to look at me, he turned so fast I thought he’d break his neck. I stand there frozen with my mouth open.

Great, the first impression is ruined.

I stop thinking about my embarrassment and look into his eyes...

Mate!

I finally found my mate!

He just stands there staring at me but when he does it, he doesn’t look like a complete idiot, like I do. He looks stoic and regal, if you told me he was a real-life prince I’d believe you. He has black wavy hair that comes down almost to his broad shoulders, the broadest shoulders I’ve ever seen. He wears simple jeans and a black t-shirt that hugs his toned body.

But what stands out, in all his magnificence is the thrill and passion of nature hidden in his green eyes.

“I am... I was...,” I take a deep breath, at this rate he’ll reject me before he knows my name. “Hello my name’s Rosalind,” I smile feeling proud of myself for saying a full sentence.

“Rosalind,” He tries my name on. I can see a smile starting to form on his beautiful lips, he must look so lovely when he smiles. His voice is deep and carries a strange authority.

“I’m Aaron,” He speaks with such confidence. I haven’t seen him around the school.

Who is he?

Aaron

I am Aaron Armstrong, twenty-four-years-old and I have been the Alpha of The Blue Moon Pack for five years.

I practically live in my office as I spend most of my time looking after the pack and fulfilling all of my duties as alpha to my pack.

All my time is dedicated to my pack. I can’t let them down. I am trained in all fighting techniques, I am well-liked by my pack and I try to keep up appearances as the Alfa.

I would have nothing if it weren’t for my duties as Alfa, they distract me from the dark reality that I’m... alone.

I have no mate.

My younger brother likes to say I was made without a mate. The pack council lie to the people that I am just a private person and will only show my mate at our wedding.

But I have no mate, I spent all my time from nineteen to twenty-one trying to find her, visiting other packs all over. At twenty-one I started to believe my brother, maybe I was destined to be alone... forever.

“Pick me from school,” I hear my brother ask snapping me out of my daydream of finding my mate.

“Huh? Oh, Blake, I was somewhere else. What did you say?” I try to look like I was sharp and not lost in a daydream.

Blake rolls his eyes at me, “You were daydreaming about finding your mate again. Give it a rest and stop torturing yourself. I need you to pick me up from school today. My car’s in the mechanics and I can’t make Cassy walk home.”

Cassy is his mate. I don’t get people and their mates you’d think she would break into a million pieces from stepping on the hard tarmac.

“Okay,” I roll my eyes trying to look as bored as he did a few minutes ago but instead I just look tired, well I was up all night in my office.

“Great!” he shouts and runs off before I change my mind.

Wait what time?

Guess I’ll just have to wait for him.

I wait at Blake’s school, it’s a nice little place, it even has a peaceful pavilion. I wonder why no one is here, It’s a nice spot just to relax. I hide in the shade of the pavilion and think that maybe I can relax, just for a few minutes. I start to let my senses relax not bothering to hear, feel or smell...

My thoughts are cut off by a heavenly scent, like blossoms and rosemary. I take in the faint scent closing my eyes and imagining this being the mate scent, It’s lovely enough to be her.

I stand there taking it all in it seems to be getting stronger or maybe I am getting more foolish. If this is a foolish daydream then let it be, I could stay in this moment, in this dream.

I hear footsteps and breathing behind me. I had dulled all other senses that I let someone sneak up on me!

Turning around I am captured by the most beautiful brown eyes, sweet like honey and glistening in the afternoon light. Her soft red lips are parted in the most beautiful way, Oh, to taste them. I’m sure they would taste of only the sweetest and freshest strawberries. Her silky brown hair rolled over her shoulders, her figure was perfect, curves in all the right places.

Finally, I found you!

Mate!

I take a deep breath as I feel a surge of emotions sweep over me - bewilderment, joy, mystery, tenderness it was almost overwhelming.

My brother would laugh if he saw me now. I am the powerful alpha male, but inside me I’m melting like a teenager encountering their crush.

She’s saying something but my mind is spinning. I am caught in a deep trance, I can’t make out what she’s saying. I squint and focus, trying, but failing, not to look in those captivating eyes.

“-Rosalind,” That’s all I can make out.

Her name... her beautiful name. “Rosalind,” her name on my lips sends shivers down my spine.

I smile, trying to play off my reaction and casually say. “I’m Aaron.”
