Chapter 1- Sea Surprise

The sailing ship rocks; giant waves crash around; the first lieutenant sleeps soundly in his quarters. A perfect storm creeps in the night to create cover for an incoming catastrophe. The magnificent boat sails the treacherous waters towards a foreign kingdom with the intention to sell weapons.

The waves steadily gain a tremendous amount of height. They are becoming more aggresive with each one they bypass. Creating chaos for the ship’s set course. A course that was chosen by the first lieutenant.

Eventually, the waves become dangerous enough to knock the sleeping sailor out of his bed. The few hours of rest he was able to receive is brutally interrupted with his body hitting the hard wood floor.

“Ugh….Fuck!” He groans in pain.

Lieutenant Jason Kilmore looks around after such a brash awakening. He takes notice that his quaint living quarters is in complete disarray. The rocking of the ship has created a shift in the furniture, and knocked a few items over in the process. The brown ornate wooden desk where he works on paperwork has shifted over to the opposite side of his room, and it is completely unkempt . The paperwork is lying all over the floor, and the glass oil lamp he had placed on the corner is shattered.

He had risen to his feet, deciding to make his way onto the deck, with a plan to discover how the sea is fairing. Leaving behind an enormous mess that he will have to clean up after his duty. His feet begin moving in a sprightly manner, and his right foot suddenly catches on the leg of his wooden chair that he didn’t identify to step over.

He stumbled forward in a clumsy manner, and was able to quickly recover himself before hitting the ground. He shook his head in annoyance, and grimaced at the idea of how severe the waves must be to accomplish destroying his room. Continuing to amble through the mess as he making his way to the bedroom door.

Before his hand can reach the brass handle, the brown door flew wide open with one of his crew members standing on the opposite side. Lionel, a recent new hire deckhand had a look of horror written all over his face. His brown eyes are wide open, and the color on his face had completely drained. Jason assumed that something had absolutely spooked the young man.

The newest crew member frantically yelled, “Lieutenant, we’re in danger!”

Jason grabbed a hold of the young deck hand to get him to focus, and calm down in the process. He placed his both hands on Lionel’s shoulders to keep him planted in his spot. Jason looks directly into his eyes, and sternly ask, “What is going on?”

The young crew mate hysterically explained that something has gone wrong. “It’s going to kill us,” he slows down his fear ridden response since he struggled to get the words out without stuttering.

Jason raised his voice, “I need you to focus Lionel!” He paused for a second before continuing, “What are you talking about?”

Lionel is shivering with fear as he whispered, “The sea monster!”

Jason pushes past Lionel into the dimly lit corridor after that shocking revelation, and he begins the trek up to the top deck. There happened to be a surmount of humidity that lingered in the hallway, and he felt the water particles accumulate over his tan-colored skin.

The smell of rain invaded his senses as he closed the distance between his room and the deck.

His dark brown hair was beginning to stick to his forehead with the amount of precipitation that surrounds the boat. He used his left hand to comb his tresses with his fingers, pushing his curly hair backwards, attempting to move his locks out of his face.

A few moments later, he found himself standing at the bottom of a set of brown wooden stairs that lead to upper deck outside. The amount of rain that was pouring in from the outside is leaving the staircase drenched in water. It looked like a miniature waterfall that cascades down to the floor. Eventually, the water would completely engulf his brown leather boots if the rain continued to pour.

He placed his right foot on the first step to march his way towards the wheel. Except, when it made contact with the board the boat made a sudden jerk to the left. The movement caused him to sway along with the boat’s shift of alignment. Throwing him completely off balance from his standing position. After the boat settled, Jason continued climbing the stairs once he found both feet were planted firmly on the ground.

His feet barely made it past the threshold when his eyes landed on what’s left of the crew. A few dead bodies surrounded by blood, being washed away by the rain, lay on the deck infront of him. All of the men begun running around frantically in an attempt to save the ship and themselves. Leaving it absolutely utter chaos outside, and the amount of heavy rain made it nearly impossible to put up a fight without slipping on the floor.

The roar of the leviathan echoed across the vast, churning sea, its massive form surging towards the merchant ship with unbridled fury. Lieutenant Jason Kilmore gripped the railing, his knuckles turning white as he watched the creature's gaping maw approach, its rows of jagged teeth glistening in the fading sunlight.

His eyes followed the few crew members that huddled together to begin working in synchronization. They attempted to wrap a rope around the body of the monster dead set on attacking them. A green scaled sea serpent is fully towering over the ship. It thrashed around violently in an attempt to free itself.

His feet stayed frozen in place out of fear. His grey eyes bulged as he watched the scene before him unfold. A creature of destruction standing before him in all its’ terrifying glory.

He is found that the leviathan making a sudden sharp movement towards him helped with snapping him out of his frozen state. Leaving just enough time for him to jump out of the way of the dragon’s head. Everything happened extremely fast.

He hit the soaken wet floor hard enough to leave a mark on his ribs. Lieutenant Jason moved his head upward to look where the creature was heading for. Luckily, the angry serpent missed him in the process of completely destroying the entrance behind him. The ships top frame had fully been demolished by the leviathan.

Leaving a pile of rubble behind when it pulled away.

It bellowed out a shattering, loud roar as it created distance from his position. Rain continued to pour in every direction. Pelting him as he lied on the floor watching his lifes work shatter before him. A few seconds later, he heard his name being called from the upper deck.

Captain Alden angrily yells, “Lieutenant, get a move on! Don’t just lie there.” Captain Alden ordered him as he pointed towards the group of men trying to wrangle the serpent.

Jason looked up at the silver haired angry captain that leaned over the rail staring directly at him. The captain’s blue eyes held blazing fury, and his body posture completely rigid with aggression. He followed his captain’s orders right away with that single expression burned into his mind. His will power suddenly showed up to allow him to stand, and he quickly made his way over to the group of men with rope.

He had been entrusted with the lives of his crew, and now, once again, he was faced with the consequences of his actions. Pushing aside the anguish, he focused on the task at hand, helping the men take down this monster.

They have a small portion of it tied around the neck of the serpent. The crew works as one by holding the ropes together fighting against the waves, storm, and a monster sized serpent. The leviathan is to be tied down with the intention to force its’ massive head onto the boat. When they are able to accomplish that then it is only a matter of time before it’s decapitated. He grabbed a rope alongside his crew to help make that outcome a possibility.

The giant green slithering monster found a way to loosen a part of the rope. Which created an opportunity to rear it’s head back, and pull the men that are hanging on to the rope into the water. Jason was unfortunately one of the men that didn’t let go in time.

His entire body flew through the air towards the dangerous water beneath him. A split second decision sending him screaming to plunge beneath the cold, dark water. Water that is beyond dangerous to the sailors due the giant sea dragon along with the raging storm.

Jason found himself struggling beneath the water.

Which allowed him to see how dark it truly is beneath the surface. Complete blackness surrounded every part of him. The waves crashed on top of him continuously as he tried to break the surface. Pushing himself to the limit he quickly found the opportunity to survive. Barely, he was able to break the surface with a huge intake of air since he desperately was in need of oxygen.

This is when he realized to survive he needed something to hold on to. He may not be so lucky the next time he was sucked under. The lieutenant looked towards the ship, and the dangerous serpent was still attacking the ship. Slowly, he was gaining quite a bit of distance from the ship. He was steadily being pulled away by the sea.

As the boat drifted away, he caught a glimpse of the leviathan, its massive form receding into the depths, a testament to the unforgiving power of the ocean.
