Chapter 1
I was sitting at the table over my laptop and thinking about what I was going to write next when the electricity suddenly went out. I took a deep breath because it was already seven in the evening. I closed the laptop and lit candles around me and took one after me. The children were stirring in their beds, they knew it was time for me to tell them a story.
"Sister" said the youngest of them, they were children who lost their parents or their parents could not take care of them, we were not an orphanage but we adopted three of them.
There were six of us, my brother Luka, my sister Flora, the youngest of the orphans Elvina, the middle sister Luna and their oldest brother who found us Kylo and of course me Daisy. We considered them brothers and sisters, our mother Amalija and father Casper Bubery are adopted them because they didn't want the children to be separated and even though we didn't have much, my mother had a soft heart and took pity on the children. My brother, who was older, went to the army, so I, as the middle child, remained in charge of them.
"Are you all ready for bed?" everyone nodded - it was noticed on Klyo that he was becoming a man, he was fourteen. Luna was ten and Elvina was five. I lit the candles around them. "Are you ready for the story?" the girls nodded and Klyo took a deep breath, he thought he was too old for stories, but every time I would talk about one of them, he would delve into them so much that he asked more questions than the girls. I placed one candle on the table and you sat down next to Evelin.
I cleared my throat and started telling stories that we had known since childhood. "Everyone knew that people no longer had power over their world, we had no right to electricity, and because the king was so kind, he gave us electricity from fourteen to seven in the evening. We were a lower rank, even some of his and other races that were not they had money, they lived with us. Creatures entered our world that we didn't even know existed, of course we speculated but after they saw how weak we were, they decided to attack, of course we humans first resisted, but how can we fight? against people who can transform into dragons, wolves and bears? And most importantly, they had witches on their side.
After all, humanity was doomed a long time ago... People who decided to submit to our king survived and were given a second chance, and those who didn't, we'll say that they don't tell this story today. Everyone knows that they live a long, long time, while we humans live an average of eighty years if we are lucky. "I looked at the children, they fell asleep, I tucked them all in and kissed them on the forehead, I extinguished the candle that was burning in their room and went out through the door of their bedroom.
I went down to the kitchen and as small as this house was, I felt at home.
"You were telling them those stupid stories again," my sister Flora answered, her freshly dyed purple hair shone in the candlelight, and her eyes were like green rubies. She didn't go unnoticed by any guy. "They must know how this world was created" I slowly started to put on the other skirt, our parents went on a journey that with their lords and since they were servants they had no right to contradict.
Flora looked at me, her eyes became sadder "You noticed that Kylo is changing, we don't know what he is, if he is a human or one of them.
I came closer to her when I finally tied that skirt, I wanted to caress her hair but she moved, she hated being touched since she was little.
"He is our brother and no matter what he was he will always be our brother" I put my coat and hood on my head "I have to go my shift starts soon take care of them" I opened the door of the house
"See you in the morning" I closed the door and took a deep breath of fresh air, everything was hard in this world, I slowly started walking through the pitch black until I reached the famous lights of the city. Even though we were a lower rank, the higher ranks liked to come here. I was lucky that a shifter gave me a job in his tavern as a waitress so that I can feed my family when my parents are not at home. But it became more and more difficult because that tavern had entertainers and men slowly started to notice me.
And I was a human woman and I was not one of the entertainers, if you didn't understand what entertainers are, they are whores. But everyone does what they have to do to survive, human women are known for their fragility and every shifter would like to taste one of us, but according to the law, if a human woman did not give you permission, you will be killed. That's the only way the king could save us from all those male shifters.
When I entered the inn it was already full and no one noticed that I had arrived because I am of average size for a human and the shifters are much, much taller than us.
Albus, the owner of this inn was in his 30's at least he looked like that, he was a werewolf and probably over 30 but I never asked him how old he was, he was generous enough to give me this job, with his green eyes and black hair , with a build that human men could only imagine, you could say that I had a slight crush on him. When he saw me, he smiled at me and my cheeks blushed even more.
"Ah Daisy you finally arrived" he moved one hand behind my head to the other side of my shoulders. I nodded his frequent touches were nothing intimate werewolves are known to like to touch people around them but his warmth was good after this cold air outside . "I don't know where all these people come from now, but I'm happy" and even if he was a werewolf, he belonged to the middle class, a class that has the right to electricity and other things that we lower races didn't have. He whispered in my ear "I heard rumors that the eldest prince is getting married"
We looked into each other's eyes and I adjusted my glasses. "Do you know what that means?" I nodded no.
He smiled "There will be a lot of tips tonight" we both smiled and I got to work at the bar while Albus helped me. Time went on, the shifters flirted with me, but Albus chased them all away. Until the door of the inn opened and everyone stopped and looked towards the door, they were much taller than the shifters, which would mean they were from the royal line, and finally when one took off the hood the famous purple eyes of the kingdom were visible, they were the princes .
"Let's celebrate because my oldest brother is getting married", so really the gossips were true, I didn't even know them and I had never seen them, but their aurora of dominance was in the air that even I, as a human, could feel it. Everyone shouted in celebration, but the prince's eyes fell on me and did not take their eyes off them. Albus hit me gently and pulled me out of the trance "Don't ever look them in the eye" I nodded but little did I know it was too late.
