A bend in space-time (Season 3) - The Umbrella Academy

Summary

Five's briefcase took us back to the future, to the year 2019. It seems that we have finally prevented the Apocalypse, even if this reality differs in subtle ways. But soon, surprisingly or not, the end of the world will be upon us again... --- In this fic, I use an OC appearing almost only in deleted scenes - Rin - to revisit and analyze The Umbrella Academy: to clarify certain points and try to fill in the plot-holes. This fic is not a self-insert nor a OC-centric fic : Rin exists to flesh out the canon characters, and the fic is mostly focused on Klaus Hargreeves. Please read the introduction for more details ♡

Introduction

Here comes the third part of ‘A bend in space-time’... and along with it, the third season of The Umbrella Academy!

If you’ve read the first two seasons, you’ll be familiar with Rin, the original character we’re following in this story. Of course, you can skip ahead to the reading!

I know that many people have reservations about OCs. I wanted to see if I could get the best out of one OC.

What this story isn’t:

- An OC-centric fic: Rin exists to flesh out the canon characters. She’s almost never shown without interacting with the characters of The Umbrella Academy, even though I’m trying to give her an interesting plot of her own.

- A rewrite of the original work’s action and dialogues: I chose to insert Rin by making her appear only in deleted scenes, or exceptionally off-screen.

- A ‘self-insert’, even if I’ve deliberately chosen to use first POV (as it allows a rather punchy writing style coinciding with her somewhat ‘badass’ temperament).

So what to expect?

- A fic mostly focusing on Klaus. It seemed plausible to me that a character like him couldn’t exist without someone trustworthy to have his back, which is basically what Rin is.

- A writing game interacting with the series: Rin’s actions in the deleted scenes often articulate or trigger canon events.

- A playground for analyzing The Umbrella Academy: digging into the psychology of the characters, seeing their daily lives beyond their on-screen story, deciphering what is only said between the lines in the series.

- Fluff and fun, too: I like to pick up on details of the story and the sets, and flesh them out. I try to preserve the series’ serious yet funny tone, and its strong link with music.

Now it’s time for a new bend in space-time...
