Wedding
Queenie’s POV
I stand here, watching as Rose shakes her head in frustration.
“I don’t care what you have to do, just fix it, please,” I plead. Rose sighs heavily.
“Can I get my dad now?” Ebony asks, looking at me. I didn’t want any of the guys to see me before King.
“Fine,” I whisper.
Ebony steps out, and I watch as Rose steps back. Robyn comes over, trying her best to help.
“It’s not going to work. This dress wasn’t made for you being this far along,” she mutters. I groan as the door opens and Big King walks in, Baby Joker in his arms. He’s called Aiden, but everyone calls him Baby Joker.
I watch as Big King hands the baby to Robyn and steps over to me. He tries to zip up the dress, but nothing happens.
“Told ya this wasn’t goin' to work,” he grumbles, and I sigh, sinking into a chair.
“It’s not my fault!” I argue.
“No, it’s King’s fault. I told him plannin' this close to ya due date was a bad idea. That dress was never goin' to fit,” he snaps, turning to Ebony. “Find 'er a white shirt or somethin'.”
“So I can’t wear the dress?” I mutter, and he chuckles.
“Ya can. Ebony will figure it out. Maybe an exposed back?” I run my hand over my swollen belly.
“I told him we’re stubborn. All the babies in this family have been late. Ya probably goin' to go into labor durin' the weddin',” he laughs. I groan in response.
“No, I’m not. I’m getting married. The baby can stay put for a few hours,” I laugh, and he nods.
Ebony comes back in, and Big King helps me stand so she can check the back of my dress. “Can you do somethin' to expose her back?” he asks.
Ebony bites her lip and nods. “Someone cut this into one long strip. I can make it like a corset,” she says, grabbing scissors. I stand still as she cuts into the dress. Big King was right—he’s been saying for months that the babies in their family are stubborn. Six days overdue and still no sign of this one coming. Well, technically only three days, since they got my due date wrong.
“Alright, I’m goin' back to King. Ya good?” Big King asks, looking at me. I nod.
“Thanks. Sorry for freaking out,” I whisper.
He laughs. “Nothin' has gone to plan, Queenie, so I don’t blame ya. But if there’s one thin' I know, it’s that ya marryin' King. I don’t care what it takes, ya marryin' him.” He hugs me, grabs Baby Joker, and leaves.
I wanted to get married here, but King refused. This place feels like home to me, or at least a second home after my cottage. But he insisted on something better.
He even suggested a fancy car for the wedding, but I told him where he could stick that idea. He’s trying to make this wedding traditional, and I want nothing to do with that. I don’t want him in a suit—I want him in his leather and cut.
Ebony steps back, smiling. “All done. It actually looks amazing, considering it was a quick fix,” she says, grinning as I hug her.
“Thanks, Ebs.”
“Anytime,” she smiles, and I look down at my belly. I have to do this, even if it wasn’t the plan. I wasn’t supposed to be pregnant.
“I’ll take the car,” I whisper, and they laugh.
“Doc will be thrilled. He was freaking out about you being on the bike this far along in your pregnancy.”
Honestly, I doubt I could sit on it at this point.
Ebony helps me adjust the last few details on the dress, and after a quick once-over, I know it’s as good as it’s going to get. The exposed back makes the whole thing look a little daring, and I guess that’s fitting for the situation. I give Ebony and Robyn a small smile.
“Thank you, both of you. Let’s do this.”
They both nod, and we walk out of the room together. The hallway is buzzing with quiet excitement, and I can hear faint music coming from the main club area. My heart pounds a little harder with each step I take.
As we reach the entrance to the main area, I spot Doc sitting off to the side, leaning back casually in one of the leather chairs. His eyes light up when he sees me, and he stands, walking over with that calm, steady presence he always carries.
“Well, well. I’m pleased ya not makin' me put ya on the back of the bike,” he says with a grin. “King would have lost his damn mind if I tried.”
I chuckle softly. “Trust me, I don’t think I could’ve handled the bike today. Sitting in a car sounds like heaven right about now.”
Doc gives a slow nod and offers me his arm. “Shall we then? The car’s out front.”
I take his arm, feeling a little more relaxed now that I’m with Doc. He’s become like a big brother to me, always keeping things calm when the chaos swirls around us. As we step outside, the cool breeze hits my face, and I take a deep breath. The car waits at the curb, sleek and black, and Doc opens the door for me before sliding in next to me.
Once we’re settled in, the driver pulls away. The quiet hum of the engine and the soft leather seats do wonders for my nerves. Doc turns to me, his expression soft but serious.
“King’s freakin' out, ya know,” he says, his voice low and steady. “He’s convinced ya gonna change ya mind, thinks you’ll decide he’s not worth it.”
I raise an eyebrow. “Me? Change my mind? He’s the one who’s been stubborn this whole time.”
Doc chuckles, shaking his head. “Yeah, well, ya know how he is. Took all of us pushin' him to get him to wear his jacket for the weddin'. He didn’t want to do it—said he wanted it to be ‘special,’ not ‘leather and shit.’”
I laugh at that. “Of course he did. He’s always trying to make things perfect, but he doesn’t realize I don’t want that. I want him as he is, not some polished-up version.”
Doc nods knowingly. “We told him. Even Joker was givin' him hell about it,” he adds with a grin. “But we finally convinced him to wear it. He’s nervous, though. Not that he’d admit it, but I can tell. Today’s a big deal for him.”
I glance out the window, my thoughts drifting to King. The idea of him being nervous makes me smile a little. The big, tough man who doesn’t flinch in a fight is worried about me walking down the aisle.
“I’m marrying him,” I say softly, more to myself than to Doc. “He has nothing to worry about.”
Doc gives a soft hum in agreement, leaning back in the seat. “Yeah, well, once he sees ya in that dress, I’m sure he’ll stop worryin'. For now, he’s pacin' around like a caged animal, probably runnin' through every worst-case scenario.”
I chuckle at the thought of King freaking out. “I can’t wait to see him, nerves and all.”
Doc gives me a sidelong glance, his expression softening. “He loves ya more than anythin', Queenie. You know that, right? Even with all the shit he puts himself through trying to make everythin' perfect, at the end of the day, it’s because he can’t imagine his life without ya.”
I feel my chest tighten a little at Doc’s words. “I know. And I feel the same. We’re both stubborn as hell, but we’re made for each other.”
The car slows as we near our destination, and I can already feel the butterflies swirling in my stomach. I’m ready for this, ready to marry King, no matter how chaotic or imperfect the day might be.
“Let’s go make this official,” I say, taking a deep breath as the car comes to a stop. Doc smiles, his eyes warm with pride.
“Let’s do it.” Doc opens the door, and I slowly step out, feeling the cool air hit my skin. My heart is racing with excitement and nerves, but I push it aside. We begin walking toward the building, but suddenly, a sharp pain shoots through my stomach. I instinctively grab onto Doc’s arm, and his eyes widen with concern.
“Decidin' to do it now?” he chuckles, though I can hear the worry in his voice.
“I’m not going into labor, Doc,” I mutter, even though the pain had me on edge for a moment. “I think it’s just Braxton Hicks. False alarm.”
He turns toward me, resting a hand gently across my stomach. I’ve gotten used to him doing this, and I trust him more than I would some random doctor. King had struggled with it at first, but even he has learned to trust Doc with checking me over.
“Yeah, not labor,” Doc confirms, pressing gently. “But he’s ready to come, Queenie. His head’s engaged and everythin',” he explains, his voice calm and reassuring.
I nod, relief washing over me. “Well, I’ll make sure I don’t jump around, do squats, or take any long walks,” I joke. “And there’s no curry at the reception, so I should be good.” I grin up at him, and he chuckles.
“You’re fuckin’ crazy,” he says with a smirk, wrapping my arm around his again as we continue walking inside.
As we step into the building, I catch sight of King’s broad back across the room. My heart skips a beat, and a part of me wants to rush over to him. But then I remember Doc’s words, and I stay grounded, afraid that if I run to him, it’ll kickstart labor for real. As we get closer, King turns around, and I stop, glaring up at him with mock irritation.
“I’m not fuckin’ dumb. If you want me to marry your brother, fine, but don’t cry,” I joke, stopping in front of Caleb, King’s identical twin.
Laughter erupts around us, and King steps forward, switching places with Caleb.
“Ya gettin' better at tellin’ us apart,” King teases, a proud grin on his face. He’s right, though. I’ve been doing better, unless I’m emotional—then it all falls apart, and I struggle to tell them apart.
“I see you listened,” I whisper, tugging on his leather jacket. He finally agreed to wear it, and it feels right. This is the King I fell in love with.
“For you, I listened,” he murmurs, leaning in to kiss me gently. His lips are warm and familiar, and for a moment, everything fades away.
We step back, and the quiet hum of anticipation settles over the room. The ceremony is about to begin, and I feel the weight of the moment hit me all at once. The room falls silent as everyone gathers in their places. The air is thick with love, laughter, and excitement, and I can feel my nerves slowly melting away. This is it.
Doc stands off to the side, watching with that protective look, and Ebony gives me an encouraging smile. Maz is sat beside her. King’s hand tightens around mine, and I squeeze back, finding strength in his grip.
The officiant steps forward, clearing his throat as the soft sound of music fills the air. King and I turn toward each other, his eyes never leaving mine.
“This is it,” he whispers, a soft smile on his lips.
My heart races, but not from fear—from love, from excitement, from everything we’ve been through to get to this moment. I look into his eyes, and I know—this is exactly where I’m meant to be.
The officiant begins to speak, and the wedding finally starts. The words flow around me, but all I can focus on is King—his love, his strength, and the life we’re about to start together. I can feel the baby shifting inside me, reminding me that our family is about to grow even more, but today, right here, this moment is ours.
