Chapter 1 - Introduction

He stretches his tie and takes it off his head flinging it in the back seat of the King Ranch pickup, home at last. Turning the truck into the long entrance lane to the Lazy G off of Montana Highway 200, Marcus settled in for the 20-minute drive into the ranch proper. The rugged terrain is familiar and a balm to his otherwise hectic life. Well backup, the hectic life he just left behind. Now he is all for relaxing and seeing what the next phase of his life will bring him. Off to his left the pasture is dotted with Angus pairs, mothers and calves, bringing a smile to his face. “BANG!” Right then he hit a pothole in the road. “Jesus Christ Beau, that will rattle anyone’s cage,” he said out loud.

He looked around for any familiar marker so he could tell his brother to get a wrangler out here and fill that in before someone lost a tire and had to get their vehicle realigned. Ah, there it is, no trespassing sign next to dead tree hit by lightning; about 100 yards beyond that. Now that his teeth were back where they should be and he made sure he didn’t break any off in the bumping, he moved back on down the lane. Up ahead 3 miles was a herd of horses on the right-hand side of the road in a lush green pasture, good looking stock, strong and healthy. Lots of mama’s and babies, he always loved imprinting the babies for easier handling; although it had been years since he had done it. It was odd but he felt human again, not some robot for making money and selling and buying land and homes. He could wake up when he wanted and drink coffee in his skivvies on the front porch swing if he wanted to. Well probably not in skivvies with Mrs. Boyd around, would not want to give her a heart attack. He laughed at the thought of her seeing him that way, she would faint on the spot. Nope no skivvy wearing without jeans on top or shorts.

Well let’s back up a bit and let me tell you somethings about Mr. Marcus Glavinier. He was raised here in Montana on a farmstead with his brother Beau and his mom and dad. He wanted to make something of himself in the big city of Denver, Colorado. At age 18, he went to business school in Denver and graduated top of his class. Real estate interested him so, he took the required classes and became a licensed relator. Luck was on his side, and he was able to land a coveted position at the very reputable firm of Glouster & Shultz Realty and began as a lowly relator with the most unattractive properties. The office manager decided to see if Marcus was worth his salt and had the backing of the big boys. Marcus not only sold the properties every time; he sold them at a profit not a loss. After six months, Glouster and Shultz called him into their conference room and told him he was doing a fantastic job, and they were giving him a raise and more lucrative properties to sell. He was over the moon; little did he know that this was another test. The previous relator to have these types of properties, did not do so well and left the company. It was better that he did not know this bit of information, it would have handicapped him. He tackled each property as he had done the first time, and the sky was the limit. He had the golden touch and within 2 years made partner. The name of the company stayed the same, but his position was solid. He now had 5 relators underneath him and his team unstoppable. When shareholder meetings would come up, he would sit in on them and then contact his broker to buy up any and all shares that were available. Within 5 more years he was lead shareholder. He sat back and just waited. When Glouster retired, he bought up his stock. When Shultz retired, he did the same and now was majority stockholder in the company. His other shareholder, there was only one, was Nicole Tremain. She ended up becoming his partner working on the business end of the realty company while he gets his team to do the buying and selling. This little endeavor ended up working fabulously for many years.
