Subject: Proposal to Establish a Mental Health & Disability Advocacy Club: The Spectrum

Dear Principal Miday,

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Robyn Miles, and I am a student at Brighton High, entering my sophomore year at senior school this upcoming term. Over the break, Iโ€™ve had time to reflect on my own experiences, including a recent diagnosis that has given me more insight into my behaviour and how I navigate the world. These realizations have inspired me to take action that could benefit not just myself, but also other students who may feel similarly.

I would like to propose the establishment of a new club at Brighton High focused on mental health, disability awareness, and advocacy, called The Spectrum. The purpose of this club would be to create a safe, supportive space for students who are neurodiverse, have disabilities, or struggle with mental health challenges.

Through The Spectrum, students will be able to:

-Advocate for their needs and raise awareness within the school community.

-Find a sense of belonging and support by connecting with others who share similar experiences.

-Provide and receive academic support in an inclusive environment.

-Organize activities and workshops aimed at reducing stigma and promoting understanding of mental health and disabilities.

-Host social gatherings that cater to the noise, light and sound sensitivity of its members.

I believe that this initiative could greatly improve the well-being of many students at Brighton High and foster a more inclusive environment. My best friend, Kayla McKay, has kindly agreed to support this effort as Vice President, and we are both passionate about making a positive impact in the school.

I am writing to request your approval to launch this club for the upcoming school year. I would be happy to meet with you to discuss further details, and I would also welcome any suggestions or guidance you may have. I am hopeful that with your support, we can make The Spectrum a reality and provide a valuable resource for the students at Brighton High.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Warm regards,

Robyn Miles.
