The Glamorous Lie

Aria Bennett’s empire was built on perfection. At least, that’s how it looked on the outside.

Her penthouse perched high above the bustling streets of Los Angeles was a shrine to modern luxury. Every piece of furniture—from the plush, velvet armchairs to the glass coffee table adorned with gold accents—was as immaculate as her public image. Aria sat cross-legged on a chaise lounge, her custom silk robe draped elegantly over her shoulders, revealing just enough of her collarbone to look effortlessly alluring.

Her phone, framed in a diamond-studded case, was mounted on a ring light. The screen illuminated her face, accentuating her flawless skin, courtesy of the best dermatologists money could buy. With her practiced smile and perfectly arched brows, she hit the record button.

“Hi, my lovelies!” she cooed, her voice honey-sweet and brimming with enthusiasm. “I know you’ve all been asking about my skincare routine, so here it is—my secret to looking this flawless, even after a long night out!”

Her hands moved gracefully, showcasing a lineup of luxury beauty products. Each gesture was calculated to exude confidence and poise. Behind the camera, however, her assistant Claire shuffled impatiently, holding a stack of papers that demanded Aria’s attention.

“Remember,” Aria continued, her tone dropping into a conspiratorial whisper, “beauty isn’t just skin deep—it’s about confidence. And confidence starts with a flawless face.”

She ended the recording with her signature phrase: “Stay beautiful, my loves. You deserve it.”

As soon as the camera was off, the mask dropped. Aria tossed the serum she had just touted onto the couch, muttering under her breath, “Confidence? What a load of crap.”

Claire cleared her throat. “Aria, we need to talk about the Diamond Skincare deal. They’re offering $500,000 for a 30-second ad, but they want exclusivity for six months.”

Aria rolled her eyes, grabbing a compact mirror from the table. “Half a million? Are they serious? Tell them I’m worth at least seven figures. Exclusivity isn’t cheap.” She checked her reflection, adjusting the gloss on her lips with a swipe of her manicured finger.

Claire hesitated. “Aria, with your recent deals, maybe it’s time to—”

“Time to what?” Aria snapped, her sharp tone slicing through the air. “Settle for mediocrity? No, thank you. Either they pay my rate, or I move on. There are a hundred brands dying to work with me.”

Claire nodded, retreating to the kitchen to make the call. She had been Aria’s assistant for three years, and if there was one thing she had learned, it was to pick her battles.

Aria leaned back against the chaise, scrolling through her phone. Her latest Instagram post—a candid photo of her lounging by the infinity pool at her last sponsored retreat—was racking up likes at an astonishing pace. The caption read: “Flawless skin, flawless life. #Unstoppable”

The comments were predictably effusive: “Queen energy!”

“How are you this perfect?!”“Manifesting this glow-up!”

But amidst the adoration, a single comment caught her eye: “When will you stop selling lies?”

The words stung, even if she didn’t want to admit it. The username was familiar—TruthTeller21. This wasn’t the first time they had targeted her. Aria quickly deleted the comment, her jaw tightening.

“Another troll,” she muttered, setting her phone down. Yet, her fingers itched to respond. She hated the idea of anyone questioning her image, her empire.

Later that evening, the facade began again. Aria attended a rooftop party hosted by a high-profile fashion brand. The guest list was a who’s who of influencers, celebrities, and elite socialites. Aria floated through the crowd, her sequined dress shimmering under the golden lights, her laughter ringing out at precisely the right volume to turn heads.

“Aria! Over here!” a fellow influencer called, holding up their phone for a selfie.

Aria obliged, leaning in with her practiced pout. She knew exactly how to angle her face for the most flattering shot. The flash went off, and within seconds, the photo was live on social media, tagged with: “Hanging with the queen herself! #Goals”

The party buzzed around her, but Aria felt oddly detached. Conversations were shallow, the compliments felt empty, and yet, she stayed. This was her world—a world where appearances were everything, and authenticity didn’t matter as long as the lighting was good.

By the time she returned home, the exhaustion was palpable. Not from the party, but from the relentless performance that was her life. She collapsed onto her bed, still in her sequined dress, and stared at the ceiling.

Her phone buzzed on the nightstand. Another notification. She reached for it, expecting more likes, but it was another comment from TruthTeller21:“Every filter fades eventually. When will you show people the real you?”

Her heart skipped a beat. It wasn’t the words themselves but the fact that they felt... accurate. She didn’t delete the comment this time. Instead, she locked her phone and stared at her reflection in the ornate mirror across the room.

For a brief moment, she didn’t see the flawless, confident influencer she showed the world. She saw Aria Bennett—the girl who had spent years hiding her insecurities behind filters, products, and an expensive facade.

But just as quickly, she shook off the thought. Vulnerability wasn’t part of her brand. And if there was one thing Aria Bennett knew how to do, it was keep up appearances.

This was her reality: a life of curated perfection, built on the fragile foundation of other people’s admiration. Aria smiled faintly, but this time, it didn’t reach her eyes. The glamorous lie she lived felt heavier with every passing day.
