Meet Me by the Lake

Elizabeth Jade was just a normal, ordinary girl.. she liked to think.. but others didnt think so. Lizzie knew she had a fractured past but she lived through it. Lizzie was a kind person and never told anyone of her past not wanting to burden them with her pain..

Lizzie sat on a tree stump staring at the water by the lake when she heard a mans voice. She turned around to see it was Percy Jackson looking tired and drained.

“Hey.. mind if i sit?” Percy asked.

“Sure..” I say with a half smile on my face. Percy returned the smile and sat in the grass beside me.

“Im Percy and you are?..” he said looking up at me.

“Elizabeth Jade.. Lizzie.. or Liz.. whatever you want to call me..” I say smiling lightly at him.

“Lizzie” Percy repeated, trying out the nickname. He found himself enjoying the company of the unknown girl. For the first time in a long time, he was distracted from his own thoughts.

“So what are you doing all the way out here by yourself?" He asked curiously.

“Getting away from the people..” I say smiling sheepishly.

Percy chuckled. “Are we avoiding people then?”

He tilted his head, studying Lizzie’s expression. There was something in her eyes that was almost sad. But he pushed the thought aside, not wanting to think about the negative.

He wanted this conversation to be lighthearted and bright.

“Yeah.. I suppose..” I say with a smile.. I’m always avoiding people. Always. Some things never change.

Percy nodded. He too was tired of the strange looks and questions from other campers.

"What do you usually do to escape?” He questioned, looking over at Lizzie. “Read a book? Take a hike? Hide in your cabin?”

“I normally go to the places most people are not.. it works like a charm. No one is ever here.. or on the beach by the camps border.” I say quietly.

Percy raised an eyebrow at the mention of the beach.

"You like beaches?” He asked curiously. "Most demigods aren’t a huge fan of water after a life of nearly drowning."

I laugh lightly “Im not scared of the water.. I still love the beach.”

Percy chuckled. “I guess you’re the exception to the rule then.”

He looked back out across the lake, an idea forming in his mind. “Say, do you want me to show you the best place at camp?”

I look at my busted and scarred knees. A lump forms in my throat. I smile trying to cover it up.. “One question first.. are you a son of Poseidon?” I ask hopefully. Gods I hope he wouldnt hear the hopefulness in my voice..

Percy’s eyes followed her gaze, landing on the scars on her knees. After a moment, he looked back up at Lizzie with a smile.

“Yeah, I am. Son of Poseidon.”

He is? Gods.. is he the one..? I dont know.. forget it.. “Oh okay.. Ill have to keep that in mind.” I gave him a weak half smile.

Percy tilted his head in confusion. Why..? “Keep that in mind?” Percy asks confused.. Why was his parentage significant to her..?

“Ah.. its nothing..” I shoot him a light smile. Can’t scare him off yet.. I need to know if its really him..

Percy’s curiosity spiked. People usually reacted to Poseidon in a negative way, but this girl seemed to be different. He raised an eyebrow. “You sure?” He questioned. “You seemed to have a realization when I said I was a son of Poseidon.”

He paused for a moment, studying her face. “Do you have some sort of connection to my dad or something?”

“No.. I dont.. its just a prophecy..” I state awkwardly. Why did i say that ill keep it in mind? Gods im so stupid..

Percy nodded, his mind starting to understand. A prophecy. Demigods often received prophecies from the Oracle. Usually, these prophecies were about some sort of danger or quest.

“Right…” he said slowly. “You received a prophecy, and it’s about me, isn’t it?”

Maybe.. i don’t know.. it’s not a quest.. if you’re wondering..”

“Who told you about this prophecy? The oracle?” Percy asked curiously.

“Chiron told me to see the oracle.. he knows of my bad past..”

“Are you okay?” He asked, looking at Lizzie with concern. “Your ‘bad past.’ Does it still affect you?”

“Sometimes..” I shrug not really wanting to speak of it. I dont want to talk about it.. Please dont make me talk about it..

Percy watched Lizzie carefully, noticing the way her eyes darkened slightly. He desperately wanted to know what she had been through, but he held back.

“Is your bad past what caused those scars?” He asked quietly, looking at the visible marks on her knees and arms.

“Yeah.”I say glancing at my exessive scars. Gods I must look so stupid to him.

Percy swallowed, feeling a strange pain in his chest. Seeing Lizzie’s scars made him want to wrap his arms around her. To shield her from the world and its dangers. He quickly pushed the thought from his mind.

“They look serious.” He stated, gesturing to the scars. “Who gave you those?”
