Chapter One: Introduction

As a young boy with shiny hazel eyes and blonde hair brighter than the sun is wandering through the forest he suddenly hears a rustling sound from within the bushes nearby.

RUSTLE RUSTLE RUSTLE

Memories of the terrifying stories his grandmother used to tell him about these terrifying lanky monsters who feed on human souls begin to race through his mind, as he imagines these tall bony monsters tears suddenly start forming in his eyes. The boy is frozen with fear thinking about what will happen to him, if this monster will eat him and his soul or even go after his family. Suddenly something quickly jumped from within the greenery, “BOO!” The boy’s older sister screamed! “Not funny Nicole! Do you not remember the stories gran gran used to tell us?” The boy said to his sister. “Do you really believe in that stuff Xavier? Those are just fairy tales the adults tell little kids to scare them into being careful when they play outside” Nicole said to Xavier with derision. “Those stories could be true Nicole! You never know for sure.” Xavier said with an annoyed tone. “Yeah whatever, anyways gran gran said dinner is almost done so we should head home.” Nicole said to Xavier. “I was gonna leave here anyways, this place stinks and there’s a ton of bugs here”

As the two children walked out of the forest it seems as if something wasn’t right at the place in the forest they came from, little did they know there was something following them from a distance…

“WE’RE HOME!” Nicole exclaimed throughout the house. “Welcome back kids, did you guys have fun?” Their grandmother asked. “Nicole was hiding in the bushes and scared the life out of me!” Xavier told his grandmother expecting her to reprimand his elder sister. “You kids are so silly, now sit down for dinner, your younger brother James is sitting at the table waiting for you two” the grandmother said in a calm voice, “okay gran gran!” The two children said in unison. As the two went to sit down at the table they caught a whiff of the smell of roasted chicken with baked beans. “I know this is your favorite so I decided to make it for you since you two did help me fix the coffee machine earlier today” the grandmother said with love and gratitude. “Did you also get the gift James wanted for his fourteenth birthday?” Xavier asked in an excited tone. “Don’t worry dear I was able to get it this morning” the grandmother said reassuring her grandson. “If we wait any longer the food will get cold so let’s dig into this wonderful dinner our grandmother cooked for us” James said eager to feast.

As the happy family was eating their dinner, it seems as if James couldn’t shake off the feeling that they were being watched. He decided to keep it to himself but be weary just in case.

The happy family finished eating but before they rose from their seats they said a prayer thanking god for the delicious meal. As the family were heading to their separate rooms James couldn’t stop thinking about that eerie feeling he had while eating dinner. James felt like he was being watched the whole time he was eating food, even when he looked out the window he couldn’t see anything watching him but he was sure something outside was watching him and his family. He suddenly lost the feeling as soon as they finished their prayer and went to head to bed. Although James was probably imagining it he still never let it leave his mind. As the children’s grandmother tucked them in she said one phrase that she has always said whenever she tucks them in at night, “do not let the mimics bite” although the children have heard this hundreds of times before, this time James felt an unnerving chill down his spine. The children slowly drifted into sleep but even in his dreams James could not shake the feeling that something unnatural was watching him.

In the middle of the night something is tapping the window as the kids were sleeping, for some reason James was the only one who could hear it even though he was all the way across the room. James felt such a intrinsic fear that he couldn’t even move, he felt that if he moved even a single inch things would end up terrible.

James sat there as the tapping continued for ten minutes straight.

Whatever was beyond the window kept tapping until…

TAP TAP TAP

These taps were so loud that it was able to wake Xavier up from his sleep. As Xavier jumped up in fear he looked at the wall and could see a strange figure. “Do you see that?” Xavier whispered to James. “I don’t see anything but I can feel it from behind the walls of the house” James whispered. As the boys laid in their beds the entity standing outside their window behind the blinds starts to walk away thinking nobody was home. “What did you see elder brother?” James asked Xavier still a bit shaken by fear. “I couldn’t see what it looked like but I could see something inside of it, it was this dark red liquid that was in this tall and had long arms as tall as me.” Xavier told to his brother. “do I look the same to you brother?” James asked his brother with a slight bit of curiosity. “You look regular right now but if I focus hard it looks like you have a purple solid thing in the shape of you” Xavier said while squinting his eyes. “If I am correct brother it may be that this thing that we saw was actually as big as what you saw, then the thing’s arms were around 65 inches long” James stated. “Tell me James, what did you feel?” Xavier questioned his blue eyed brother. “I felt this since we were eating dinner, a creepy feeling that we were all being watched from the window, when I looked out the window I didn’t see anything, furthermore I believe that this probably isn’t some sort of wild animal since it was smart enough to stalk us and tap on our window to see if anyone was inside. I believe we should tell grandmother about this discovery, sounds a lot like the stories she speaks of” James stated while rubbing his chin. “Man you really talk a lot don’t you?” Xavier said in a joking manner. “Well I think for now we should call him a stalker, for some reason I have a feeling that this isn’t the only one. If there are more of his kind then we will have to figure out how to escape them, well for now let’s head back to bed.” James said to his elder brother. “goodnight James” “goodnight Xavier” the brothers said to each other before heading to bed.

As the boys went to bed the room was cold and the forest outside was silent for the rest of the night. We don’t know what was behind these mysterious creatures but there is one thing they do know, these creatures are dangerous…
