"Congratulations," Vanessa said almost sarcastically. Zephyr looked at her confused.

"For what?" They asked. Vanessa said nothing, which annoyed Zephyr. Almost as if they were just supposed to know. That always annoyed Zephyr in general. People can't read minds, y'know.

After a long moment of complete silence, Vanessa just rolled their eyes. “You have been working here for two years now.”

“Oh.”

“Like I said, congratulations.”

“Thank you?” Zephyr thanked Vanessa. Vanessa nodded and walked away.

Zephyr did work here for two years, they counted. The first year (when they were in high school and a senior), they were a waitress. After they graduated high school (which means they got a high school diploma), they got promoted to be a security guard.

At night.

A night guard.

Zephyr thought that they needed more education and training to be a night guard. But they researched, and found out. To be a night guard, you only need to have a high school diploma or a GED certificate.

So here they were.

Even then, they knew Vanessa before they became a night guard. A night guard at Freddy Fazbear's Mega Pizzaplex to be exact. When they were a waitress, they caught a few glimpses of Vanessa every now and then. But they never really knew her.

When the first two met, Vanessa mis-assumed their gender. Calling Zephyr a ‘he’.

The thing is- Zephyr is gender-fluid. Meaning, some days, they feel like they want to dress and act like a girl. And sometimes on other days, they feel like they want to dress and act like a boy.

They get called a femboy a lot for that.

They were born male.

But they had a very feminine body. Which was another reason why they called them a femboy.

When they first started out as being gender-fluid, whatever gender they were feeling that day, they changed their pronouns as well.

It confused many people, even their two younger sisters.

Eventually, they just changed their pronouns to they/them. People still assume their gender, or pronouns.

When Zephyr explained this to Vanessa, they expected her to rant on about how they were still too young to know what they were yet. Most adults did that to Zephyr. Instead, Vanessa just nodded and accepted that.

Now they were practically buddies. Vanessa was 23, and they were 17, but so what? Vanessa was often complementing Zephyr for how ‘mature’ they were… usually. Most people also often mistake Zephyr as an adult at first because of how tall they were and their maturity, but if you look a little closer at their features… You can tell they are still a teenager.

And for tonight… They were bored. Extremely bored. Zephyr played with the flashlight they had, flicking the light on and off at a pattern of some sort. On. Off. On. Off.

Vanessa suddenly reached over and snatched the flashlight out of their hands. Zephyr shot up from their leaning position against the wall.

“Hey!”

“Stop doing that, you’ll drain the batteries,” Vanessa spoke firmly. Zephyr was unfazed, placing their hands against their hips.

“I’m just bored.”

“Then be bored,” Vanessa replied. Vanessa then tossed the flashlight into the air. Zephyr stuttered in their steps but caught it successfully. Zephyra was about to go back to playing with the flashlight, when they realized that Vanessa took the batteries.

“Hey!” Zephyr called out Vanessa, who was walking down the stairs towards the entrance. “Why did you take out the batteries?”

“Get some new ones yourself,” Vanessa called out, continuing to walk down the stairs.

“That doesn’t answer my question!” They shouted back. Vanessa didn’t respond. Zephyr sighed. They knew that there would be spare batteries in one of the security offices in the pizzaplex.

Zephyr stood in place for a moment as they tried to figure out which security office was the closest. They knew there were batteries in the daycare… but they chose not to go there. Zephyr came to the conclusion that they will go to the FazerBlast security office.

“Hey V! I’m going to FazerBlast,” Zephyr called out to Vanessa, who was now all the way at the bottom of the stairs near the main entrance. She was looking through the large windows near the entrance before she turned around and gave Zephyr a thumbs up.

Zephyr stepped into the elevator and waited while the intercom spoke.

“Did you know that birthday wishes only come true at Freddy Fazbears? It’s true! Kids who have home birthdays don’t have many friends and parents who don’t love them. This has been another Faz fact!”

Zephyr cringed, they should probably talk to the office about that.

The elevator creaked, then stopped. The doors in front of Zephyr then opened up. Zephyr took a step out and took in the size of the Pizzaplex once more, just like they first did when they first arrived. It still surprised them.

A MapBot then jumped in front of them. Zephyr stuttered backwards.

“Hi. Please take this map,” the MapBot said as they tried to shove a map into Zephyr’s face. Zephyr tried to get away, but the MapBot continued to follow them. Zephyr huffed.

“You stupid bot, I already have a map. I work here!” Zephyr practically shouted at the bot. The bot acted no different.

“Take a map,” the MapBot said once more. Zephyr sighed in frustration before aggressively snatching the paper map out of the MapBots hands.

“There, happy?!” Zephyr spoke, annoyed.

“Thank you for taking a map,” the MapBot thanked. The MapBot rolled its wheels in a 360 and moved around, trying to find more people to give maps to. “Free map.”

Zephyr crumpled the paper map they received from the bot before shoving it down the nearest trash can. The trash can was decorated to look like Chica, the swingy door with her beak, and the top of the trash can had Chica’s ponytail.

“What was that all about?” Zephyr could hear Freddys voice from behind me. They turned around and saw the tall bear animatronic standing not too far from them, Gregory was hiding just behind his leg. Zephyr shrugged.

“Oh nothing, just the MapBot being annoying as usual,” Zephyr replied. Gregory nodded.

“Yeah, I hear you,” Gregory mumbled quietly mostly to himself. Freddy nodded along as well.

“Yes, the MapBots can be a bit… persistent.”

“More like pushy,” Zephyr commented. Freddy looked up at them.

“They’re just doing what management programmed them to do, they mean no harm,” Freddy said a little too quickly after Zephyr’s comment. Zephyr shrugged once more and placed their hands into the pockets of their uniform. If only Freddy wasn’t so darn nice all the time.

“Yeah, well, they could use just a smidge of respect for boundaries.”

“True to that,” Freddy shrugged. Gregory jumped out from behind Freddy and onto Zephyr. They stumbled backwards from the impact. Freddy looked shocked. “Gregory! You can’t just-”

“So Z, did you know that someone new is going to start working here now?” Gregory interrupted Zephyr. Zephyr only shook their head.

“No, what's their name?”

“No idea.”

“Well you’re not much help,” Zephyr commented and eyerolled as they placed the child down onto the ground. Gregory went back to Freddy. Freddy crouched down more as Gregory climbed onto his back.

“So, where are you headed?” The bear animatronic asked.

“Going to the FazerBlast office to get batteries.”

“Why?”

“Because V took away my flashlights batteries.”

“For what reason-”

“Who knows.”

Gregory poked his head up. “Vanessa is scary.”

“Vanessa isn’t scary, she keeps the building safe along with Zephyr,” Freddy said as he glanced towards Gregory. Gregory just shrugged.

Zephyr and Freddy exchanged their goodbyes before they took the escalator. They had to walk across the room for a moment to get to the other side- where FazerBlast was.

Once they were there, they used the security card to get in through the doors. The sound effects played in the FazerBlast lobby as Zephyr went towards the office, using their security card to let themselves in. After a while of rummaging through supplies, Zephyr finally transferred some new batteries into their flashlight.

“This is stupid,” Zephyr muttered to themself as they exited the office and out of FazerBlast. “I shouldn’t even have to do this in the first place.”

Then Zephyr heard a crash in the Roxy Raceway. And Monty. Zephyr quickly went into action and sprinted into the Roxy Raceway, coming into the view of the wolf and alligator animatronic. The two were arguing, Zephyr couldn’t make out what about though. They stepped in between the two animatronics and pushed them apart as best as they could.

“What is going on here?!”

Roxy flicked her tail back and forth. “He’s just upset because he lost!”

“I did not!” Monty shouted in protest.

“Did!”

“Did not!”

“Did!”

“Did not!”

“DID!”

“DID NOT!”

“SHUT UP, BOTH OF YOU!” Zephyr shouted over the two. Both the animatronics went quiet and stared at the night guard. Zephyr groaned and crossed their arms. “This is ridiculous. Both of you, go to your room.”

The animatronics did not hesitate to do so, and obediently followed Zephyr’s orders. Zephyr remained in place, still with their arms crossed till both of the animatronics left the area. When they were both gone, they sighed. “My god.”

Zephyr looked at their wrist at their wristwatch, and read that it was only 1:27 AM. They groaned again. Everything happens so slow around here.

Zephyr made their way back to the main lobby- with a run-in with the MapBot again. When they entered the main lobby, Vanessa wasn’t there. Zephyr shrugged it off, thinking that they just went somewhere else. Zephyr leaned against the wall and continued with their flashlight shenanigans.

Vanessa saw in the security cameras on the tablet, the fighting between both Roxy and Monty. She also saw when Zephyr stepped in and sent both of them to their room. So Vanessa decided to make sure that both of them were in fact in their room.

Vanessa looked through the glass of Roxy’s window, and saw the wolf animatronic sitting in a chair, looking at herself in the mirror. Vanessa nodded to herself before she went to check to make sure the door was locked. She had nodded to herself when she realized it was. Then she went to Monty’s door.

Vanessa had expected Monty to be mad, and trashing his room (As he always does), but when she approached his room, it went strangely quiet. It was deeply concerning.

The room was dark, so Vanessa couldn’t see through the window. Instead, she used her card and opened the door, stepping inside. Monty wasn't there.

Quickly, Vanessa ran out, going back to the main lobby where Zephyr (to Vanessa's annoyance) was playing with the flashlight at the bottom of the stairs.

Zephyr was being shook aggressively by the women with blonde hair. “Zeph!” Vanessa shouted. “Monty isn’t in his room. I need you to check around this area, I’m going to the main stage!”

Vanessa released her shoulder and ran back up to the elevator, which left Zephyr alone. They felt stupid. They should have escorted the two animatronics to their rooms instead of believing they could do it themselves!

Now Zephyr had to look for the rogue gator animatronic.

Vanessa had instructed Zephyr to check out the area they were currently in. Which was the lobby.

The daycare was also there.

Zephyr gulped, surely Monty wouldn’t be in there, right?

Zephyr wasn’t sure, but they knew they couldn’t put the daycare option aside. It would be better to get it over with now instead of later.

So Zephyr took in a deep breath and began walking over towards the daycare. The large metal door slid up as they entered. There was a large, metal statue (that was painted to look golden) of both of the daycare attendants. Sun and Moon.

Then there was a large, rainbow colored tube slide that had a sign over the top that read Slide into Fun!

It was the fastest way into the daycare.

Zephyr realized they had been holding their breath, and quickly let out a large exhale.

Just get it over with.

Zephyr climbed into the tube and slid down. The ride went by quickly, and they soon landed in a ball pit full of plastic, rainbow balls. Music was playing in the background.

The place was bright, but Zephyr didn’t see the daycare attendant anywhere.

Slowly, Zephyr pushed themself up from the ball pit and started walking around. There were three sets of play structures. One to the left, one to the right, and one just behind the ball pit.

“Monty!” Zephyr called out. Silence, only the music playing in the background. Monty is never quiet, so that means he isn’t here, right? That would make sense.

Zephyr breathed a sigh of relief, now they can leave this hellhole. They could already see the exit, a set of large wooden doors where a sign on top said Superstar Daycare! The security desk was just beside it.

Then the lights shut down. Everything went dark, even the music had stopped. It had slowed down, and it sounded kind of distorted- which freaked Zephyr out- before it stopped completely.

Zephyr looked down at their watch. It was 2:00 AM.

Pitch black.

Total silence.

Usually, Zephyr would be okay with this. But they were in the daycare. And already could Zephyr see those memories start to bubble into the center of their mind.

“Who the heck are you?” A low voice from behind Zephyr asked, which made both the thoughts go away and made Zephyr jump.

Zephyr turned around, slowly. A tall Moon animatronic was there floating (attached to a harness of some sort that was hooked up to somewhere from above the daycare) about an inch or so above Zephyr. It was the nighttime daycare attendant, Moon.

“Who are you?” Moon asked again, impatiently.

Zephyr tried to remain calm and maintain a cool demeanor. They worked here, and so did the animatronic, there is no reason they would be in any type of trouble.

“I’m Zephyr Afton,” they replied coolly.

Moon just stared at Zephyr, silently inspecting them. Then their eyes landed on their security badge ID.

“Wait…” Moon mumbled. “You work here?”
