Summary

Arrival

The year was 1798, and the mist never lifted from the cursed grounds of Ravenshollow. Villagers spoke of the manor in hushed tones, warning of the "withered ones" who still roamed its endless corridors. But Eleanor Blight had nowhere else to go.

Chapter Notes

The Ward twins were unlike any children Eleanor had ever seen. Lucien and Lillian, no more than ten years old, sat silently in the dusty parlor, their faces pale as parchment, their wide eyes tracking her every movement. "Good evening, Miss Blight," they said in eerie unison, voices soft, almost melodic. A cold shiver ran along Eleanor’s spine. "Good evening, children," she replied, forcing a smile. The room smelled of dampness and wilted roses. On the mantle stood a cracked portrait of a woman — beautiful once, but the paint had bubbled and peeled from her face, making her look disfigured, monstrous. "Is that your mother?" Eleanor asked gently. Lillian tilted her head. Lucien’s lip twitched. "She speaks from the mirror now," Lillian whispered, fingers stroking the dusty fabric of her dress. Before Eleanor could respond, a loud knock echoed through the manor, though no one stood at the door. The twins giggled, high and breathless, before darting into the shadows. Eleanor was left alone with the whispering walls.
