It had been weeks since the werewolves uncovered the harsh truth behind their missing she-wolves. Since then, many had been found. Some were blood, others were strangers with hollow eyes and haunted souls.
For the packs, it became a season of reunions and newfound bonds. Young males discovered their mates, and joy echoed through the lands with celebration after celebration.
But for the lost females, it did not feel like a return to safety. In fact, they viewed it as another kind of captivity. A gilded cage.
They were expected to smile, to submit, to play the role of docile mates in a world they’d been raised to despise. Their entire lives they’d been trained to see werewolf men as the enemy. As ruthless beasts draped in skin. As tyrants who could not be trusted. Kill on sight. That was the law they lived by. That was survival.
And now, they were expected to lie beside those same monsters. To carry their mark. To bear their children. It was a cruel twist of fate.
Among them was Aurora, one of the first she-wolves to be taken by the vampires. Not only had she been mated, but she’d also been named High Luna.
They gave her everything: a wardrobe fit for royalty, glittering jewels, and technology she could hardly understand.
Her bed was a cradle of heaven. It was so soft it hurt to leave. Servants came and went at her word. The world around her dripped with beauty and obedience.
But she hated it.
She was to stand at the side of an Alpha she didn’t choose, didn’t love, didn’t even recognise as hers. How could she become the Luna he needed when every time she closed her eyes, the future she saw… didn’t include him?
But Aurora wasn’t the only one who resented the idea of her as Luna. There were those who watched her behind dark cloaks, observing her every move. And they wanted to break the already broken Luna.
