thunderstorms : the past

thunderstorms have always made you run in fear to your mother's lap when you were still a younglin. yet now, at your college age, you couldn't do such a thing. the thunders made your window tremor, waking you up in the middle of the night. "perhaps the noise-cancelling headphones would help" you mumled under your breath. you used to talk to yourself sometimes, well, just murmur some words from time to time. perhaps the way you were alone for half of the day had gotten to your head...

at some point in time, you used to live with your then-boyfriend, but after that huge argument, he couldn't help but leave. sometimes, you missed not being fully on your own. but his presence in its own wasn't something you desired in the present. no. you knew how to get over past events with ease. sometimes, shocking the ones around you, seemingly as if you didn't really form bonds with the people you lost. but you did. you just buried the awful feeling in yourself in such a subtle manner that nobody could really read you clearly. maybe sometimes your mother or your closest friends, but that was in fact all of them.

living alone in a small flat owned by your elders and not far from the campus proved to be incredibly convenient. even though you previously were ever-so willing to spend more time with others, time turned you into a sure introvert. as numerous colleagues of yours would crowd in the small student dormitories, you could facilly walk around fully naked, eating your breakfast peacefully on the couch in front of the huge window. luckily, the bloc you lived in was closely resembling a sky-scraper. the flat you occupied was situated on one of the highest floors. you could see the whole town while eating your bowl of cereal.

"couldn't get enough sleep" you thought to yourself "possibly i can take a nap after lunch classes". as you ate your breakfast bowl, you grabbed one of your textbooks and started reading the next chapter in advance. you knew it was going to be a hard semester, so all you could do was try and understand some concepts from now, saving yourself from some sleepless nights.

you loved planning stuff ahead, anything that took you by surprise was annoying you. you had yet to find the exception. the short temper specific to your person was something that your family had left you with from when you were still a child. always being in an unstable household had turned you in a control freak over the years. this was one of the things that your ex secretly hated about you, everything needed to be planned beforehand. he used to be spontaneous in bed, one day almost hurting you with his impulsiveness and leaving you betrayed and hurt. even though you used to care about him, the traumatic experiences he had put you through made you reconsider your relationship at the time. this is what made you two split up then. which, come to think of now, was a great thing for your sanity. he had tried contacting you again through messages a couple of times, but not even once had he come to you in-person in order to apologise. you wouldn't have accepted his sudden sorries anyway.

as you got lost in your own labirinthic mind, you almost went late. you threw some clothes on you, clasped your hair up and gathered your books for the day in your backpack and walked out. still somewhat cold outside from the night before, you hoped the concealer would mask the sleepless hours you just had. the way to the college halls was something you surprisingly enjoyed, you could amble through a park and enjoy some gorgeous scenery in the time.

arrived at the main campus court, you greeted your little friend-group. sadly, you guys had different classes today, so you didn't really get to spend time with them until lunch, when they couldn't wait to update you on to the latest campus gossip. huh, so not spending time there with the others proved yet again to be useful, as you didn't have to live with all the college drama happening right next to you. "it's gonna be a long day" you said to one of your friends as you helped her up jokingly. after everything, you all agreed to meet at your lunch spot and went on to each one of your classes.

the day went on smoothly, perhaps a tad bit boring. nothing really seemed to catch your eye throughout the lenghty classes nor the breaks. it got time to walk to the cafeteria in order to meet your pals. you steadily grabbed only the book you were currently lost into, leaving the rest of your study materials somewhere in the library around one of your favourite spots and found your way to lunch. sitting at the table waiting for your friends, you noticed some new groups of students walking around the place. you knew almost everyone in campus, even though they did not know you, so, obviously, these new people were exactly on the contrary to your little vision field. as one of your friends had just seen you and found their path at the spot, she slammed into one of the new people. you couldn't help but notice the arrogance and the general looks they gave your friend, leaving you with a coldly negative first impression. as all your buddies gathered and started chatting, you forgot about the judging gazes.

it got time to leave for your first serious study session of the day. walking to your library spot was one of the dullest things you had even taken part in, if you leave aside the never-ending queues to the small town's market in your little hometown. sometimes, you missed the whole atmosphere of the place, but, after the last family argument with your tios, it certainly was for the better. some of the now distant parts of the family expected you to marry into someone already chosen by them with no protests on your part, not in a pre-arranged marriage, but in a way such as "we really like this guy, and his pa has been a close friend to your tio. don't you remember spending so much time with them when you were little?" but: happily, most of your kindred was strongly opposed to that idea, since they all knew you had nothing to do with the neighbour's son, you didn't even have a crush on him when you were young. so what was all that about really? but you already knew it was just for the sole purpose of your tia getting into good relations with the little town's higher ranked people, their old friend being one of them.

all of a sudden you hit your foot in a pillar. you've really got to be more careful when walking around. you got lost again in your thoughts, now disoriented around the whole building. you went on in a whatever way, hoping to find the library in the end - and you did. ambling around, you noticed how it seemed slightly more crowded than usual.

the incident

as you reached to your spot you couldn't help but notice a foreign bag dropped near your table. "those damned new students" you mumbled. you absolutely hated studying with anyone around. you chose this spot because it was in one of the most isolated corners of the whole chamber. however, you eventually got on with it, but not before moving the backpack to the other side of a bookshelf which was out of your vision field. you started working on one of your assignments.

it did not take long until the bag's possesor came around, having noticed his moved stuff, the student stood in front of your table and stared at you for a hot minute. he had a pretty tall figure, not resembling any of the colleagues you knew from familiar looks in classes or in the halls. "must be a new stundent" you muffled into your breath. "and you must be the one who moved my bag" he spoke, almost as if he was lecturing you. you didn't expect him to hear you. "yeah, it was my spot" you said half-assedly with him responding eagerly: "well it's not like you own the place" and he took a step towards you almost instinctively. "no, but as any normal person does, i have a place of mine and i can't stand when someone else takes it. plus, my books were all over th-" and he interrupts you abruptly: "listen, i don't know who you are nor what your deal is but i found it empty - so it's mine." with no warning, he grabs one of your breats, somehow cupping it in a swift motion and violently smothers it. "understand? now walk it before i reach for the other." still shocked, you grabbed everything and moved to a totally different place, unsure about what just had happened, all you knew was that you could feel the impact even now. it hurt badly, almost as if a bruise was forming where his hand just was.
