Xavier
Smoke unfurled from the oven and you could distinguish the insistent odor of charcoal lingering in the air as you approached the kitchen. Your ears were buzzing from the alarms’ piercing sound when you noticed the extinguisher was missing. Your heart started pounding. What was Xavier doing? He wasn’t burning the kitchen down again, was he?
You stepped inside the room urgently as your eyes fell on Xavier. He was bent over the oven, extinguisher in hand, a frown etched on his face.
“Xav, what’s happening? What’s that smell?” You asked, as he turned around. He was wearing an askew apron, and had flour smudged on his cheek as this little grin you loved the most wavered across his face. He almost looked pleased with himself, which enticed a grin from you too. “Birthday cake” he announced.
Your gaze dropped to the mess on the counter and blackened overcooked cake behind him. “That’s a cake?” you teased him.
“Well, technically, it is” he asserted as he poked it with a knife. “It has flour, eggs, and… uh… enthusiasm.”
You blinked, your heart swelling at the sight of this silly adorable man, who despite clearly having non-existent cooking skills was still trying to bake a cake for you on your special day. “You don’t know how to bake.” You declared.
“I do now. Kind of. Maybe.” He grinned, his blue eyes, as deep, infinite and warm as a cloudless sky on hot a summer day. “You’re still impressed though, right?”
A laugh curled off your tongue. “I’m impressed it didn’t explode.” You poked his arm, playfully.
A content exhale escaped from his mouth before he clutched two forks and handed you one. “Let’s see if it’s edible.” He raised his fork like a toast. “Happy birthday, starlight.”

Omg so cuteee!
