Study Sesh
Morgan wrinkled her nose again and tried to pay attention to what Steven was saying.
He pointed the eraser end of his pencil at a specific equation and then began to explain how to start solving it.
She tried to focus.
Really, she did.
But the apartment still smelled like fresh paint, and the noise his roommate was making as he got ready for work, was distracting.
Glancing around again, Morgan looked at the newly painted walls. They were a smooth, eggshell white. The trim pieces weren’t fancy, just quarter round. They were painted an ultra-white. She’d have gone with something darker. Maybe an earthy coffee color, to help hide dust and scuff marks. The ultra-white looked weird against the eggshell. That was also distracting.
This was a rental apartment, identical to the hundreds of other rental apartments she’d seen in her three years at university. From visiting friends, to blow out parties, Morgan had seen her fair share.
According to Steven, the landlord was making improvements to the place to increase the rental value. Over the summer, the carpets had been pulled up and replaced with luxury vinyl and the past weekend, painters had come to do the communal areas. Over winter break, Steven said he was told he’d have to move all his stuff into a storage unit as they’d be painting the bedrooms.
His roommate came into the kitchen and began banging the cabinet doors around. Each slam as he went down the row of doors made her flinch.
“Have you seen my Tervis?” he asked in a rush.
Steven paused his explanation to Morgan and rubbed two fingers over his forehead.
“No. I haven’t seen it since last week.”
“Fuck, I bet Sara stole it. That fuckin’ bitch,” he muttered.
“I don’t know man, but we’re trying to get through this lesson,” Steven said evenly.
Morgan licked her lips and folded her hands in her lap. She was not a fan of confrontation, never had been. Over the years, she’d been told by a few people that she should really learn to speak up for herself, but that seemed so hard when staying quiet and compliant was easier to do.
Gaze flicking between Steven and his roommate, she felt her heart-rate kick up. Her fingers twitched, going to the hem of her skirt and pinching the hem, letting the feel of the stiff cotton tether her to something safe and consistent.
“Sorry,” his roommate mumbled. “Guess I’ll just have to pick one up before work– shit, I’m gonna be late!”
The air that had been trapped in her lungs streamed out of her nose in a slow exhale.
Steven shook his head beside her and thumped the eraser of his pencil against the textbook.
“So anyway,” he said in a measured voice. “Knowing now, the best practices for solving, where would you start on this one?”
She bit her lower lip and tried to focus on the equation. The words blurred on the page, the sound of the front door slamming shut making her heart race. The silence of the apartment pressed in on her and Morgan internally counted to ten before glancing at Steven. His gaze was trained on the textbook, a slight furrow on his brow.
With a jittery jump in her knee, she leaned over and pressed her lips to his.
Steven froze.
Morgan froze.
Then his lips softened beneath hers and the sound of the pencil clattering to the table just before his hand cupped her cheek had butterflies erupting in her belly.
The kiss was soft at first. Sweet. Innocent.
“We should get through this lesson,” he whispered against her lips.
They really, really should.
Morgan came to Steven to tutor her in her Algebra II class. Despite having excellent grades in every other class she was enrolled in, math had never been easy for her. As far as she was concerned, math was some kind of satanic practice that the educational system forced on innocent students.
She had originally been paired with Steven when he was recommended by her Algebra I professor.
Yep.
Morgan had to take Algebra I in college.
Her grades from high school were passing, but just barely. So the university was making her take them again.
Steven had been her hero. Not only had he managed to explain the terms and reasoning behind the equations to her, he had become a dear friend to her. Someone she felt wouldn’t judge her or expect things from her like her other friends did.
For the first time in a long time, Morgan had felt like her old self. And that was all thanks to Steven.
So it made sense, in a way, that she’d grow attached to him. His quiet demeanor, his shy smile, and really– Steven was devastatingly handsome. You just had to know how to see it.
He was tall. Very tall. And while most men of his height tended to be stick thin, or disproportionate, Steven was not. She would say the closest descriptor would be wiry, but that wasn’t true– not really. Behind his black framed glasses, he had gorgeous hazel eyes. With an angular jaw and a tan he didn’t seem to work at, his complexion always appeared healthy. Morgan liked how his lower lip was thicker, more plush. She liked the way his golden stubble felt against her fingertips.
And recently, she discovered that Steven was proportionate…all over.
Which is really what was distracting her at the moment.
She could try to blame the paint and his roommate, but honestly? After the last two study sessions devolved into her and Steven making out, she was hoping for a repeat performance.
“I think I’ve got it now,” she said in a low, sultry tone.
Was it sultry? She wasn’t sure. But behind the shiny lenses of his glasses, Steven’s eyes went unfocused.
Slowly, Morgan pushed her chair back and stood.
Steven leaned back in his own seat, watching her with a startled kind of anticipation.
With her lower lip firmly trapped between her teeth, she hiked her skirt up and straddled Steven’s lap. The hot pink flash of her panties had Steven swallowing thickly. His hands landed on her hips, steadying her as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
“Do you want me to stop?”
If he said yes, she’d die of embarrassment, but something deep inside Morgan told her, Steven wanted her just as much as she wanted him. It was the only reason she was being as bold as she was.
Large hands with long fingers framed her face. Steven pulled her down and kissed her. Their bodies ground together, her right hand braced on his shoulder, her left gripping the back of his neck. Steven wrapped his left arm around her waist, holding her steady and firmly against his chest while the left slid up into her hair at the back of her head.
The kiss deepened, their movements becoming more frantic as the minutes ticked on. When Steven’s palm smoothed down the back of her neck, over her shoulder and then further down to cup her right breast, Morgan’s breath caught.
“I’m sorry,” he said instantly, his hand whipping down to press against her knee. Morgan panted, leaning back enough to look at his face.
“What? Why?”
He swallowed hard, his Adam’s-apple bobbing, “For um, for touching you inappropriately.”
Morgan frowned. “But I liked it. Don’t you want to?”
Steven blinked at her, then reached up to fiddle with his glasses, wiggling them on his face. “Well, yes.”
She liked how deep his voice was– how hushed and quiet.
“Then… touch me.”
Grasping his wrist, she brought his hand back to her chest. He watched the movement, gaze laser focused. When his fingers curled around the soft curve of her breasts, he let out a shaky breath.
“We should slow down,” he whispered, distracted by his hands movements. Morgan’s clit throbbed as his thumb smoothed over her hard nipple. She whimpered and the thickness pressed against her panty covered pussy twitched. Steven groaned just before he angled his head and kissed her neck. Morgan arched her back into the affection, rocking her hips over him as he licked and sucked at the tender skin beneath her jawline.
“Take me to your room?” she asked, breathlessly.

I’ll tell you right now I SUCKED at algebra. I am totally on this girl’s side right from the jump. and that’s just from the blurb.
