Chapter 1: Celestial Academy
The bells of the Celestial Academy rang through the golden skies, echoing across the floating spires of Elarion. The sound carried a quiet power that made every student pause. For most, it was another day of divine lessons. For Kael, it was the day he had been waiting for his whole life.
He stood on the eastern balcony, staring at the sunrise spilling across the sky. His reflection shimmered faintly in the clouds below, the faint glow of divinity marking him as something more than mortal, but not yet a god.
“Still out here?” a voice called.
Kael turned to see Eren walking toward him. Eren’s cloak shimmered with illusion magic, a faint reminder of his talent for mischief. “You’ve been up here since dawn,” Eren teased. “Planning to challenge the sun itself?”
Kael gave a small smile. “Maybe I’m waiting for someone to notice me.”
Eren laughed. “Let me guess. Lyra again?”
Kael’s expression softened at her name. “I just want to see her again.”
“Careful,” Eren said with a grin. “Falling for a goddess never ends well.”
Before Kael could respond, a gust of divine wind swept through the courtyard. A blinding light formed in the center, and the High Oracle appeared, surrounded by rings of flame and starlight.
“Students of the heavens,” she said, her voice carrying to every corner of the academy. “The Divine Trials will begin in three days. Only five among you will be chosen to ascend.”
A wave of excitement and fear moved through the crowd. Kael’s heart raced. The Divine Trials were the only path to the Celestial Court, the place where Lyra now lived among the Supreme Gods.
“The chosen will not be judged by strength alone,” the Oracle continued. “But by purity of heart.”
When the light faded, Kael felt a sharp gaze on him. Across the courtyard stood Dravik, the god of storms, tall and proud with eyes like lightning.
“You?” Dravik said, his voice dripping with scorn. “A half-born mortal among gods? You’ll never make it past the first trial.”
Kael met his stare. “Then I’ll surprise you.”
Before Dravik could respond, Selune stepped between them. She was quiet and graceful, her silver hair moving like water. “Save your pride for the trials,” she said. “The heavens already have enough storms.”
Dravik snorted and walked away.
Kael turned his eyes upward, toward the distant palace of the Supreme Gods. Somewhere up there, Lyra was watching. He still remembered her promise from long ago: When you reach the stars, find me.
He clenched his fists, determination burning inside him. “Three days,” he whispered. “And I’ll prove I belong beside you.”
Eren sighed beside him. “Then you’d better start training before I leave you in the dust.”
Kael smiled. “You’ll try.”
As they ran toward the sparring fields, laughter echoed through the golden halls, carrying with it the spark of something that was only just beginning.
