Prologue-the four musketeers

The sun had long since dipped below the horizon, casting a warm orange glow over the neighborhood. Jack, Luke, Lucy, and Max had gathered in the woods, their flashlights casting eerie shadows on the trees. They had been friends since forever, and their nighttime adventures were the stuff of legend.

"Tonight's the night!" Jack exclaimed, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "We're going to play the best game of hide and seek ever!"

Lucy nodded enthusiastically, her ponytail bouncing behind her. "I've been practicing my hiding skills!"

Max grinned, her eyes sparkling. "I'm going to find you all in like, two seconds!"

Luke, however, looked less than enthused. "Guys, I don't know if this is such a good idea," he said, his voice laced with concern.

"What's wrong, Luke?" Jack teased. "Scared of the dark?"

Luke hesitated, glancing around nervously. "It's just... I had a bad feeling about tonight. Let's not play this game, okay?"

The others laughed, and Jack clapped Luke on the back. "Come on, Luke! Don't be such a chicken! It's just a game."

As they walked deeper into the woods, they stumbled upon an overgrown path. The trees seemed to close in around them, casting long, ominous shadows. In the distance, they saw it – a sprawling mansion that seemed to loom over them like a ghostly sentinel.

"Whoa," Lucy breathed. "Look at that place!"

Luke's eyes went wide. "Guys, this is so creepy….i heard someone died in there” Lucy began narrating some made up stories to tease and haunt Luke who was scared and tensed.

Jack snorted. "That's just a stupid story, Luke. You're not going to let a little rumor scare you, are you?"

"Well ….you never really believe anything i say ” Luke said as he turned to call out the rest inorder to stop the game

Shutup….. i know you have a crush on max ,your face says it all ,if you call of the game ,i will you know have a talk with max”Jack said with a mischievous grin, nudging Luke playfully.

Luke's face turned bright red as he shot Jack a warning look. "Shut up, Jack!"

Max rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Oh, come on, guys. Let's not fight. Let's just play the game already!"

The four friends approached the mansion, their flashlights casting eerie shadows on the walls.

Getting to the entrance of the mansion ,They rolled a bottle on the ground inorder to determine the seeker .The cap of the bottle stopped at jack ,which made him the seeker . As Jack stood at the entrance of the mansion ,the others scurried off to find hiding spots.

Jack finishes counting down from 10 and enters the mansion, shouting "Ready or not, here I come!" He searches the kitchen first, finding it empty and dusty. He then checks two rooms on the ground floor, one of which has a creepy painting of a faceless young girl, which made him shiver .He stood at the front of the painting for some seconds before continuing the game .Jack decided to search the rooms next .The rooms were both empty and dusty almost as if nobody had lived there. After searching these rooms, Jack returns to the entrance hall and decides to head upstairs to continue the search.

As Jack crept upstairs, the creaking of the steps beneath his feet seemed amplified in the silence. The stairs sounded like it would collapse anytime some ,which made him hastened his steps . As He reached the top of the landing ,Jack saw four doors of the rooms ,two at the right while the other two at the left side of the hall ,before him, each one a potential hiding spot. He felt a shiver run down his spine as he hesitated for a moment, wondering which room to check first.

The doors seemed to loom over him, their blank surfaces offering no hint of what lay within. Jack's heart was racing as he steeled himself to begin the search.

As Jack entered the first room, he was struck by its vastness. The corners seemed to fade into darkness, and the only sound was the creaking of the old wooden floorboards beneath his feet. After standing helplessly at thr door of the room ,He spotted a wardrobe in the corner and approached it cautiously, his heart racing with anticipation. When he opened the door, he was relieved to find it empty.

But as he turned to leave, he noticed something peculiar – the wall to the left of the wardrobe seemed to recede into the shadows, creating a small alcove. And in that alcove, he saw a dusty blanket. His curiosity piqued and Jack reached out to pull it out.

Suddenly, the blanket burst open, and a figure leapt out, making Jack scream. But it was just Lucy, laughing hysterically. "I got you! I got you!" she exclaimed, her eyes shining with mischief.

Jack pretended to fake the scream inorder make lucy feel like he just screamed so he could make her laugh ,but Lucy just teased him about being scared. “Ughhh ….. so dusty ” Lucy said as she let out a small cough . They dusted themselves off, Jack asked if she'd seen anyone else. Lucy shook her head, and Jack jokingly warned her that she'd be the next seeker.

With renewed determination, the two friends left the room to continue their search for Max and Luke.

They searched the first two rooms and found nothing. As they approached the fourth room, they saw a dark figure in the distance. Jack called out, thinking it might be one of them trying to avoid been caught , but the figure suddenly rushed towards them, causing Lucy to scream.

However, it turned out to be Luke, who was frantically trying to get away from something that had touched him in the room.

“ oh my God Luke you sacred the shi…. out of me …….” Lucy said still recovering from what had just happened.

Luke just stood beside them facing the place he had just ran out of ,he was curious about what touched him while he was hiding .After series of explanations from Luke ,he finally gave up as Lucy and Jack did not believe him .

Jack continued further to look for the last person which was max , Lucy and Luke tagged along . Jack went to the last room upstairs, unlike the other room this one was filled with lots of properties making it almost impossible to enter the room .

They all squeezed themselves into the room ,the dust from all the old furniture made it hard for them to breathe.

At the extreme end of the room ,lay a dusty old book almost looking like a diary ,out of curiosity Luke bent down to pick the book but was stopped by Lucy who think it was a bad idea ..,

“ you’re always in trouble at home because you bring different things and yet ,you still want to pick this one ….huh ” Lucy said as she held Luke’s hand .

Jack stood at the other emd of the room pointing the touch around the room to find any traces of Max and after pointing the torchlight around for sometimes he concluded that max wasnt in the room and signaled for them to check other areas of the house.

After searching the upper floor and finding no sign of Max, the trio went downstairsto continue thr search . They all started calling out for her to stop hiding . They all knew max would never come out until she was caught it was the rule of their game . Jack shouted at the top of his voice inorder to let max know she was the winner ahd he had caught Lucy and Luke . When she didn't respond, they grew concerned and decided to split up to search the entire mansion.

As Luke, Lucy, and Jack searched the mansion's surroundings, their anxiety grew. They called out Max's name, but only the wind replied. Lucy, visibly shaken, suggested they head back home and inform their parents about Max's disappearance. Jack, however, remained stubborn, convinced that Max was just playing a prank on them.

"Come on, guys, she's just hiding somewhere, waiting for us to freak out," Jack said, his voice laced with uncertainty.

Undeterred, Jack continued to shout for Max, his voice echoing through the empty halls and grounds. But as the minutes ticked by with no response, Jack's confidence began to wane. He glanced at his friends, seeing the fear and worry etched on their faces.

“If my father finds out that i sneaked out of the house ….he’s going to be so pissed ….this was supposed to be …….” Jack leaned on the wall ,short of words as he looks at Lucy who began shedding a tear and was shaking. They didn’t want to head back home beacuse they had all sneaked out from max room ,they are supposed to be asleep by now at max room as they all came for sleepover.

After staying silent ,the trio decided to head back to max house hoping they will find her in her room . They reached max house and climbed the ladder which they had used to sneak out of the house ,entering max room ,there was no sign of her .

Luke swore under his breathe that if they found max ,they must end the so called tradition of sneaking out the house in the middle of the night to play hide and seek .

Mustering courage ,they all headed downstairs to see if they would meet her there ,reaching the parlor ,Max mom came out of no where asking why they weren’t asleep yet .

The parlor was filled with silence as both max mom and the children stood saying nothing . After some seconds later ,Lucy finally spoke up ,narrating everything to Max’s Mom .

Max’s mom immediately called the police ,who responded quickly and headed to the mansion to begin their own search .

As the night wore on, the reality of Max's disappearance set in. Jack, Lucy, and Luke were grilled by their parents for sneaking out, but they were more concerned about their friend's safety. The police had promised to do everything they could to find Max, but the uncertainty hung in the air like a dark cloud.

As the three friends lay in their beds, they couldn't shake off the feeling of guilt and responsibility. They replayed the events of the night, wondering if they could have done something differently. The darkness outside seemed to press in on them, making it hard to breathe.

Earlier in the day ,the town would wake up to the news of Max's disappearance, and the search would continue. But for now, the silence was oppressive, punctuated only by the sound of their own anxious thoughts.

The search for Max has become a full-blown investigation, with the police and the community working together to find her. The flyers with her picture are plastered all over town, and the media is buzzing with the news.

As the days go by, the community comes together to support Max's family. Volunteers join the search parties, and people from all walks of life reach out to offer their help. The police are working tirelessly to follow up on leads and tips, but so far, nothing concrete has turned up.

The media attention is intense, with news crews and reporters swarming the town. Jack, Lucy, and Luke are interviewed by the press, recounting their experiences and pleading for Max's safe return.

Meanwhile, Max's family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support. They're grateful for the community's help, but the uncertainty of max whereabouts is taking a toll on them.
