Chapter 1: First Bell, New Feelings

Evening had settled over the quiet street.

Under the soft glow of the streetlights, a small tempo slowly drove along the road before stopping in front of a cozy little cottage.

The tempo’s door opened, and a young girl stepped down.

She walked a few steps forward and stopped in front of the cottage, looking at it silently. Warm light from the house fell across her face, but for a moment, her features remained hidden in the shadow.

From behind her, a gentle voice called out.

“Luna, come here, dear. Help me."

The girl turned back, and now her face could be seen clearly.

She had soft chestnut-brown hair that fell to her shoulders in natural waves, and warm hazel eyes that reflected the quiet evening light. Her expression was calm and thoughtful, with the faintest hint of a soft smile.

“Coming, Mom,” she said quietly.

Luna walked back to the tempo and began helping her mother unload the flower pots.

“Careful, Luna… carefully,” her mother reminded her.

Luna nodded gently as she carried one of the pots inside.

The tempo driver and a young helper boy also joined in, lifting boxes and pots and carrying them into the cottage. One by one, everything was moved inside until the tempo was finally empty.

A few moments later, the driver stepped forward and cleared his throat politely.

“Mrs. Catherine… my payment?”

Catherine nodded and walked over, handing him the money with a thankful smile.

After the tempo drove away, the street became quiet again.

Catherine and Luna stood together in front of the cottage, looking at their new home.

Luna Bennett never expected anything special from this town. She came with no plans, no hopes—only the quiet belief that life would continue as usual..

Luna and her mother, Catherine Bennett, stepped into their new cottage tucked at the edge of town.

Catherine, a single mother and the proud owner of a flower shop, pushed the door open with a gentle smile. The scent of fresh wood blended with the familiar fragrance of flowers that always followed her home.

The house was tiny, warm, and imperfect. But it felt safe.

“This will do,” Catherine said softly, setting down their bags. “A new home, a new start.”

Luna nodded. She wasn’t unhappy—just quiet. Something about this place felt like a pause, as if life had taken a breath before moving forward again.

The next morning, sunlight slipped through the curtains around six. Golden beams stretched across the wooden floor, waking Luna slowly. She lay still for a moment, then rose and padded down the stairs, careful not to disturb the calm.

In the kitchen, Catherine was already awake. The smell of toasted bread and fresh coffee filled the space.

“Good morning, Mom,” Luna said.

“Good morning, dear,” Catherine replied warmly.

“Go get ready—it’s your first day at your new school.”

A small flutter stirred in Luna’s chest.

After breakfast, Luna boarded the school bus to RoseMery Convent School and chose a seat by the window. Trees and rooftops passed by in a gentle blur.

New school.New faces.New stories.

“Can I sit here?” a cheerful voice asked.

Luna turned to see a girl smiling at her.

“Of course,” Luna replied.

The girl introduced herself as Mona. Conversation came easily between them, light and comfortable.

But suddenly, a sleek car sped past the bus. A girl leaned halfway out of the passenger window, her gaze sharp and fleeting.

Mona’s voice dropped. “That’s Nova—the cheerleading leader. Everyone knows her.”

When the bus stopped at the school gate, Luna saw the same car pull in. A driver opened the door, and Nova stepped out with effortless confidence. Her high ponytail swayed as she walked, joining three girls who mirrored her polished presence.

Before entering the building, Nova glanced sideways.

Her eyes passed over Mona.

Luna felt Mona’s grip tighten for just a second.

“Let’s go,” Mona said quietly.

Inside the classroom, voices buzzed with shared stories. Mona went to the front to clean the board—clearly the class monitor. Luna chose a seat in the middle row.

Moments later, Nova entered and sat beside her.

Luna blinked, surprised, but stayed silent.

When the teacher asked Luna to introduce herself, she stood, steady despite the attention. After the lesson, Mona helped her organize books before being called outside.

For the first time, Luna was alone with Nova.

“Hi,” Luna said gently. “You’re Nova, right?”

“Yes,” Nova replied calmly. “I saw you on the bus… and at the gate.”

“So did I,” Luna said.

Nova studied her for a moment, then smiled faintly. “You’re interesting. You can have lunch with us if you want.”

Luna hesitated, then shook her head politely. “I promised Mona.”

Nova nodded, already reaching for her phone. “Okay.”

As she looked away, Luna felt something she couldn’t name—not fear, not regret, just awareness.

The town was quiet.

The days seemed ordinary.

But something had already begun to shift.
