GEECEE; The end of workdays
GEECEE
The Hook:
GeeCee is about artificial intelligence, in the news all the time, almost every day.
Based only a few years from now, the software to allow large trucks to be driverless has leapt forward. The characters act and interact in reaction to that technology eliminating hundreds of thousands jobs a year, likely a million or more in a fairly short time.
The Narrative Summary:
The premise is that a new use of AI eliminates up to one million jobs in a fairly short time. The jobs are long-haul truck drivers, eighteen wheelers. The players include the investors/developers, trucking company owners, truck drivers male and female, a powerful union and its members, members of the US Congress, newspaper reporters and photographers, the National Highway Safety Administration. The trucking and technology details have been carefully researched for accuracy.
The world of GeeCee is a mirror held up to our own, reflecting a society on the precipice of a technological landslide. When a new iteration of automation and innovation is unleashed, it doesn’t just replace workers, it dramatically, permanently changes a key part of the world economy.
Thematic Vision:
For a producer, this property offers a multi-factor, multi-faceted narrative with the intellectual weight of The Big Short and the social impact depicted in Origins and Atlanta. What happens when artificial intelligence results in the elimination of one million skilled, well-paying jobs? The novel GeeCee explores that question, and the involvement of employees, employers, investors, reporters, editors, a powerful union, high government officials and the United States Congress.
