PLEASURE DOING BUSINESS

The path we’re on isn’t on the map. 

Tree branches whack the side of the old truck as we drive deeper into the forest.

I’m glad I’m waiting until the tour is over to sign the new property lease.

“You sure this is the right way?” I ask.

“I know this place well,” the owner says.

“Five minutes. No big deal.”

We stop at a clearing with a fresh mound of dirt.

The putrid smell makes me gag.

“What the-”

I see an open grave.

The blade sinks into my neck.

I slump inside.

He walks away.

“Pleasure doing business.”
