Chapter 1: An Unexpected Arrival

An Unexpected Arrival

Detective John Doe pulled into the harbor of Maledict Island. The fog drifting across the expanse of sea obscured his view of the island, a silhouette rising up from the darkness. He stepped off his boat, clutching his coat tightly around him, and looked around for a sign of civilization. The silence was almost deafening; all he could hear was his own breathing, and the gentle lapping of the waves against the shore. He had expected to find an island bustling with life and activity, but instead, everything seemed strangely still.

Suddenly, a figure emerged from the fog. They appeared to be an inhabitant of the island, judging by their rough clothing, their unkempt hair, and the curious look in their eyes. Doe stepped closer, ready to introduce himself, when the figure spoke first.

“You’re the detective, then,” the figure said. “You’ll be wanting to speak to me. I’m Beckett, the mayor of this island.”

Mayor Beckett motioned for Doe to follow him, and the two began to walk towards the village. As they passed through the fog, Beckett began to explain what had happened on the island.
