Chapter 1
Blood Moon
Sweat drenches my body as I tear through the forest, crimson shadows swallowing me beneath the blood moon. My heart hammers like a feral drum. Each breath comes so fast and hard that I’m certain I’ll faint if I take another step. I stop to catch my breath—a luxury I can’t afford but must take before I lose consciousness.
I look down at my hands, still wet with fresh blood, and shake my head. I want to scream from frustration, but fear keeps me silent. The fear of being found by the pack beta. I am a traitor and a murderer. What have I done? The question screams through my mind, over and over. How did I end up here?
Behind me, I hear them—the alpha’s guard. They’re on my trail. I force myself forward. As the alpha’s son, I’m faster than all of them. The only one who could catch me would be the alpha himself. The one who now lies in the forest, lifeless and bleeding out because of me...
I reach the cliff’s edge. I can jump, or I can fall. The jump may kill me, but so will they. I take one deep breath, then I leap.
Now the Moon God will decide my fate.
