Chapter 1

Ashkit’s P.O.V

“hey....Kid wake up” I felt something prod my side. I groaned in pain and opened my eyes slowly. So many questions raced through my mind. “Where was I? Where is my mother?” none of that mattered now....I am pretty much dead anyway. “Here, eat” A strange black cat pushed a small raven towards me. I knew that I couldn’t eat that...I didn’t have enough strength, or enough teeth. The black cat had no sign of sympathy in his eyes. “Either eat....or starve” He said through gritted teeth. I sat up weakly and looked at the small raven. I had seen my mom eat a bird before.....I started tugging on the ends of the feathers, only getting small feather tufts in my mouth. I spit them out immediately, realizing the bad taste in my mouth. “you are doing that wrong!” the black cat scolded me harshly. “I....I have never eaten prey before...I am just a kit.” I meowed quietly. The black cat was about to scold me again, but before he could I heard paws padding towards me. “That is no way to treat a kit, Jet!” She said. Jet stomped away, Infuriated that he was being bossed around. I watched as he went, and then I spun around, to see who had spoken to Jet. I heard a silky voice in my ear. “I can teach you how to eat that, if you want.” she said. I didn’t know what to say, she was so much nicer than the cat named Jet. “I am Lily, by the way!” she meowed cheerfully. She reminded me of my mom...with her silky voice and caring eyes...I spaced off, trying to remember the life that I had with my mom. I was only with her for a month. “You must be starving!” Lily said. ” how about I teach you how to eat that bird.” She smiled at me. “first, you put your paw on the bird and pluck the feathers where they meet the skin.” She explained. Lily starts plucking the feathers, making a neat pile as she goes. ” Here! you come try.” She offered. I looked down at the bird and put my paw on it and started plucking feathers. It was easier to do it this way! I nicked the skin with my small teeth and smelt the warm blood coming from the creature. As soon as all of the feathers were off, Lily tore a small piece of the bird off and offered it to me. I took it eagerly, and started eating it, piece by piece. It was so good! Better than milk! Lily looked at me and smiled. “You must have so many questions!” She said kindly. I looked up from my meal. “Well....actually I do!” I responded, finishing the raven.
