Chapter 1
I stepped onto the college campus with familiarity of what I was doing and uncertainty of how well I was going to be able to execute things this year. It was another day another century and I was back in the swing of things.
I was finally happy to be out of the 20th century and here where I was finally caught up with everyone else and living in the present.
Things in the 21st century were...how do I put it? Interesting to say the least with technology growing at the speed of light, and oh yeah, this global warming problem I just learned from Penny, one of the vampires who beat me to this century. Penny was my friend, along with Courtney. They were the roommates that the school paired me up with. You'll meet them later.
The University I'm attending is called Haven University School For The Paranormal and it isn't a normal school. To the public eye it seems like a normal school but it is far from it. Haven University was ran by a group of Supernatural creatures. The purpose of the school is for supernatural beings like me to have food without going to the ends of the earth to look for it. The school seems like a regular school to regular folks who want to study about the paranormal, but really it's our cafeteria. The higher ups or the supernatural big guys who run the school made a deal with our supernatural law enforcements to not kill anyone at the school in any violent way, so a long, long time ago someone had the big bright idea of having all the supernatural beings' feeding to be centered around love. You want to eat? You have to find a human from the school and make them fall in love with you naturally, then you may proceed to feed on their soul through that love. I hate the whole system because it's all do to chance. You have 100 years to make someone fall in love with you and it has to be within that century it can't bleed into another century. If you get someone to fall in love with you, you feed on their soul until either that century is up, they die by natural causes, or they die by falling out of love with you. So in a way your victims are keeping themselves alive by staying in love with you. If you succeed to find someone to love you, you get to move on to the next century and the feeding process starts all over again. If you can't find someone to love you by the end of the 100 years you die because that would mean you hadn't eaten in a long time and when you don't eat you die. Another thing is if you fall in love with your food once you're done feeding on their soul they get turned into a vampire. Don't ask me how that works or why that is, it's just how these people wanted things to work.
There are loop holes for those who don't find love when the 100 years are up. If you get in the good grace of the higher ups they can extend your time, so then you are able to stay in the past and have the duration of time between the previous century and the current century to find food and get to the present or you die. Moving on to the next century is a vampire's whole goal. You don't want to be left behind and stay stuck in time like I was in the 20th century. So there you have it folks it's not the sun that kills us, or a steak through the heart, but love and time travel, although those other things aren't too good for us either.
Classes are at night. That helps the supernatural beings like me avoid the sun, because it hurts like a bitch, and it makes things more fun for the humans...what more way to study the paranormal than at night?
My thoughts were interrupted by a group of guys walking by. Thank god. My head was starting to hurt with all this love and time travel thinking.
"Hey, gorgeous don't you have class you need to get to? Why are you standing in the parking lot in a daze?" One of the guys from the group hollered at me.
The other guys bursted out laughing.
Idiots.
Nothing was funny about what that guy said. I ignored them as I grabbed my backpack from the passenger seat.
When I closed the passenger door and turned to go towards the entrance of the school, I saw a guy with black hair looking back at me as he and the rest of his friends or the group that just passed me continued to walk away from my eyesight.
'What are you looking at?' I thought to myself again as I stared the guy down.
I know I just got here a few days ago, but things in this century are definitely going to get some getting used to. I mean everything was different from the way people carried themselves to the way that they talked. I expected this. Every century is different, but I wasn't expecting for this one to be so different from the last one. Everything was unrecognizable.
'Well, Celine welcome to the 21st century.' I thought as I made my way to my first class of the night.
