Sunday
I wake up from my alarm and while having a huge hangover, I regret drinking last night. I throw the fluffy pillows of my cloud-like bed and go to take a bath, since I look like a raccoon and smell like one too. After a long warm bubbly bath, I check my cellphone for any texts to reply too. For the first time Mum texted me saying “Come to the kitchen, family talk!” Which is odd since we never have family talk on Sundays also she usually screams from the kitchen to come downstairs.
I dress myself into clean clothes wearing my ruby red baseball shirt and jet black shorts, I go out and close my poster-filled door. Walking towards the wooden stairs I keep thinking of what i did wrong, because I never get scolded for drinking or staying out late so what now? The kitchen door is closed, I knock once then I hear dad say “Come in “I enter the kitchen which had a strong smell of Grandma’s Apple Pie, which Mum probably stole the recipe from.
Mum was wearing her old NYC shirt with her hair all messy and tousled, While Dad’s freckles where prominent as ever and I could see his grey hair peeking out. It feels like entering a battlefield when one party has arrived while waiting for the opponent to show themselves which in this case is me. Two pairs of eyes are glaring at me and it almost looks as if they would burst out. I try to not say a word and take out a box of Orange Juice and gulp down the carton hoping to pacify my thirst.
I grab a stool and sit down, I then ask “Where is everyone else?” with a squeaky morning voice. Mum just has one thing to say “Your Dad and I want to talk to you only”. After hearing this, a lump rises in my throat and I can hear my heart hammering in my chest. I can see Mum and Dad’s Smile plastered on their faces like china dolls, Adrenaline passes through my veins just as water.
“Mindy, Your Mum and I Love you, but there is one thing we need you to know” Dad says while I caught his pale fingertips shivering. Barely whispering “Which is?” I utter. “Mindy, honey promise us you won’t have any hard feelings” Mum responds while looking in to my eyes. I nodded back.
