Chapter One
Excitement runs through my veins as my group gets piled on a plane, we are officially being transported to the nearest town by the mountain, the mountain that separates mankind from the monster kind.
Well, I don’t think of them as monster’s just supernatural beings, my team is going to be the first journalist group to be officially accepted at the meeting about breaking the wall down and letting humans and monsters exist together.
Ha! Take that SummerNews no more being first!
I think it is awesome they are finally starting to talk about it. It’s been at least two decades since the monsters were discovered, about time the president and other United States officials started acting like men and not wussies with their tail tucked between their legs.
I silently buzz in my seat, legs kicking back and forth happily as I tap my thighs. Daisy smiles softly at me as she shakes her head amused. Daisy is the editor in our little group; she takes my notes and makes them into readable articles.
She let me try one time to make an article but all she could decipher was the excitement in the text more than the text itself. She still teases me about it from time to time.
She is a tall older woman with a motherly aura. She has soft loving brown eyes and long wavy brown hair. Being a wife and a mother of three she is tall and plump.
Having baby fat and eating good meal’s I envy her. I’m on the short and cubby side, shoulder length curly sandy brown hair with hazel eyes. I binge eat more than eat a healthy meal, I just simply don’t have time, I must be up and ready for the next hit! Right there before any of the other pesky journalists.
And did I mention I’m always on the go? I’m never home, either in another town or another state. I can’t remember the last time I was home..
Sajay sits beside Daisy, leg crossed over another as he reads, I think an email from his boss, he is my boss, the leader of our group, if he isn’t asking questions I am.
He is usually at his office waiting for Daisy to send him an article she made from my notes or audio notes. If he approves he will publish. If he doesn’t then he will send it back and nine times out of ten I have to go back and get more information or start all over again.
He doesn’t look all too happy about what he is reading, but ever since I met the man, he is never happy, so I guess it’s his normal expression.
“Ooo I’m soooo excited Daisy! I wonder what it’s going to look like! Will it be big or small, how many monsters will be there? Will we meet the president? Wait, is the president coming? No, no way he can’t be. Too dangerous, will a representative get sent in his place? Will the king of all monsters come? Or will he send a representative as well?” I gasp “do you think a fight might break out!?” I practically almost scream in panic.
Daisy winces as she sighs softly, other passenger’s look over at me irritated or worriedly. Sajay ignores my outburst simply used to it.
“How about you calm down dear and ask each question one at a time. I can’t answer them all at once especially with you jumbling them all together”
Taking a large gulp of air I calm down, breathing slowly I ask the first question “do you think the monster home behind the mountain will be large?” Daisy thinks as she leans back against her seat “Well, I am assuming so… they have been there way longer than we have anticipated before we found them based on records I found. The town that resides by the mountain has been there since…well forever.”
“It doesn’t matter how long they’ve been there Daisy; they are animalistic creatures. Hopefully whatever the fuck the higher up was thinking doesn’t pass I don’t think I can stomach having them walking freely among us” comments Sajay as he types on his phone looking disturbed.
Daisy frowns “I.. I agree but not to that extent... I’m just worried about the children. With them being so…different, I am just imagining their offspring influencing our kids.” she shivers as she holds herself no doubt thinking about her little ones.
“I just can’t imagine how the fucking president will allow them to be able to move past that town.”
I shake my head glaring at the two. “You two are fucking racist…Speciesist? I don’t know!” shaking my head aggressively I huff “Y’all sound like two fucking racist ass people, did you know before the monsters came. My race, African Americans were enslaved and before you say anything Sajay, black people can be racist. And yes, I know I am mixed but! I am still half black which comes back to my point of you! can’t judge being based on their race!” Daisy looks embarrassed and guilty as Sajay just glares at me.
“I seriously thought better of you two but that right there says otherwise. You two should be ashamed of yourselves, and wasn’t it you Sajay? That told me we shouldn’t make opinions and assumptions based on what we hear and see what other people present? That we should judge by what we gather ourselves as journalists?” I shake my head sad.
I pull out my headphones and connect them to my phone, disappointed in the two of them, turning on Spotify. My mood instantly rises as my favorite song plays. I hum softly and sing a little on my favorite part.
Sit down bitch, Ano yoru mitai na kokei, when you sucked his dick, you should’ve cut his little stick Ima no danjou na kankei, Tada fucking until you come, eh?
Mind Brand, wonderful masterpiece of a song, they really made a bop, before I know it several other songs play before Daisy timidly taps on my arm. Taking off my headphones I look over at her.
“We are landing…and I would like to apologize…” I hold my hand up “Don’t, it’s your opinion on what you see them as and I can’t change it. And don’t try to change it to appease me, it isn’t going to work.” I smile at her. “But I do appreciate the effort in trying to change” Daisy eyes water as she nods and keeps her hands in her lap looking away from me.
Sajay rolls his eyes as the captain starts to speak overhead, telling us it’s safe to unbuckle our seatbelts and start to get our baggage overhead. This isn’t new as I hear the same instructions I’ve been hearing since I got this job.
Waiting for Daisy to scoot out and into the tiny walkway, I follow her after taking off my seatbelt. I reach the overhead compartment and grab my backpack. Then my satchel pulling my satchel by the strap I put it on my right shoulder, slinging the rest on my left side, having the strap lay between my breast, and the bag on my left hip.
I follow Daisy and Sajay off the plane and into the airport, my tummy growls as the scent of fresh baked goods and food floats around in the air, subconsciously licking my semi plump lips I ignore the need to eat and follow my leader down the busy bodied airport and toward the baggage claim.
