The Invitation

It rarely happens when someone ever received an invitation from an old mysterious and creepy mansion on the hill. The town had all forgotten that the place rarely existed, but few of them had ever seen a wealthy family living there. One evening when the sun was shining bright and sweet melody of the birds was heard, a man named Thomas received a letter.

It was clearly and elegantly written on a cream colored paper with a wax seal bearing a symbol he didn’t recognize. The letter was short he started reading it “you are invited to the celebration of senses, wear your finest attire and arrive at midnight on the given location.”

Sensing the strange tone of the letter, Thomas couldn’t resist going there. He had heard rumors of the mansion parties and its wealth and curiosity of getting better of him.

As the clock struck midnight, he put on his best suits and made his way up the hills, when he arrived, the mansion seems quite and silent, the grand front doors wide open and a thick layer of air touched his soul. As he stepped in the door slammed shut with a heavy finality behind him.

The interior was magnificent far more than he had imagined. As he walked further the curiosity begins to rise. The guest who had arrived there were all silent , sitting on the large dining looking straight to Thomas, he felt a bit awkward and made his way to the chair, the guest didn’t speak, didn’t move only their eyes followed him.

The devil, as they say, was indeed in the details. Every dish that was served there was shimmered in the candle light, but as he starts eating he smelt a strange smell and a bitter taste after every bite.

He took a sip of wine to wash it down but as the wine touches his lips, he realized the wine was black as dark as an ink. then it hit him: he wasn’t just at a party as the mansion itself had Invited him and the guest starts laughing In a creepy way as they were the trapped souls by the smallest details of their pastin the mansion. They were all bounded there and the invitation had claimed him too. The letter he had received was not an invitation to the party but a contract by reading it he also sealed his soul..

Leah: The character writing in this is lovely. Everyone feels rich and well fleshed out, even when introduced for only a moment.
