This story is, above all, a crime novel. You’ll follow the adventures of Dakota, who has recovered—at least on the surface—from the rapes she endured in Santa Monica and Las Vegas during her escape. These events are recounted in the first four chapters, each labeled “Prologue.” They are deliberately graphic, so be warned! The violence she endures is raw, and the revenge that follows will be just as raw.

The story can be read without having read the prologue. The first chapter of the story (the 6th, therefore) will serve as an entry point for those who wish to jump straight into the investigation.

I intended this story as a tribute to those who help others without expecting anything in return. And Dakota understood this well when she, in turn, took in Brooks, a young woman who had also fled her past.

The investigation she will conduct in a town where the sheriff and the mayor are at the head of a trafficking ring also provides an opportunity to depict life in a remote town where everyone knows each other, but where everyone also has their secrets, and appearance is everything.
