Summary

Dakota is nineteen when she flees Santa Monica and her old life. Taken in by a truck driver, she settles down in Stockton, Kansas. With Armon and his wife, she begins to rebuild her life after the physical and psychological trauma she has endured. Eight years later, she has taken over from Armon as a park ranger and converted the old fire station into a bar: Coyote’s Hydrant. With the help of Brooks, a fellow orphan of the road, she will investigate the discovery of a body in the lake of the nature park she oversees. She must navigate the power dynamics at play in the town, look beyond appearances to uncover secrets, and unmask the killer or killers.

Foreword

Hello, everyone

This story is, first and foremost, a crime novel. You’ll follow the adventures of Dakota, who has recovered—at least on the surface—from what she endured in Santa Monica and Las Vegas during her escape.

I intended this story as a tribute to those who help others without expecting anything in return. And Dakota understood this well when she, in turn, took in Brooks, a young woman who had also fled her past.

The investigation she will conduct in a town where the sheriff and the mayor are at the head of a trafficking ring also provides an opportunity to depict life in a remote town where everyone knows each other, but where everyone also has their secrets, and where everything is just a facade.

The first chapter is comming next saturday.
