Winter Nights
The seasons change so fast, it’s already winter and the snow is falling. Said you’d only stay for the summer. That promise you kept.
Sometimes I like to sit here by the beach and reminisce on past memories. Even though remembering is painful, it’s bittersweet. The memories of summer warmth and sweet hot chocolates fill my mind. We used to sit by the window, your favourite spot, and watch the crowds go by. We’d laugh about something silly and I’d admire your smile. I’ve never felt so comfortable walking down unfamiliar roads with a stranger before but your encouraging hand and welcoming words led me on. But now I know the name of every road we walked upon and your name I’ve called hundred times and over.
As much as I love the beach and the heat of the sun upon my back, this café will always be my favourite. Memories I’ll always cherish, we made in this café. But then I remember, how you’re so far away. I remember how you’ll never lead me down these roads on summer afternoons. I remember how I’ll never watch you drink your iced latte in this café by the beach again. Because the snow is falling and now it’s winter. You made me promises and this promise you kept.
