Chapter 1

Pulling into the parking lot the dust from the tires kicking up and leaving a haze in the air. The breeze swirling the particles around and lifting them away. Stepping out of my Jeep, I could immediately feel the heat of the day. Looking up at the bright sky, and not seeing any clouds, it was a simple decision. Leaving my rain coat behind, I grabbed my day pack and extra water. Heading off walking to the west, I wanted to make it to the overlook before the sun started setting.

The pace was definitely up tempo, but nothing too bad, Setting a quick pace helped me focus on just this… no more thoughts on my failed relationship, bullshit coworkers, emotionally draining ‘friend’… just the beauty of nature and my connection to it.

Five miles in, four to go. The wind seemed unable to penetrate the thick canopy of the forest here, making the air sticky and thick…. Almost hard to breathe… I knew these conditions would continue for most of the next mile or two… so I forced myself to slow a bit. I had the time to spare and I needed the energy to hike back out.

Apparently though my thoughts weren’t shared by some as a jogger blew past me on the left. Barely announcing their presence. A quick glance back and some side eye gave me a good understanding of their priorities

For a moment, I did have a nice view of their tight butt as they ran past. Their toned legs flexing as they jetted along. Thank god for running shorts.

I continued on, trekking up the trail, increasing my pace as I exited the dense tree line, finally feeling like I could breathe again. The breeze dropping the temperature a good ten degrees and drying all the accumulated sweat from my body. But with the breeze came the storm.

I could see the clouds stacking on top of each other. It had taken me nearly three hours to get here, but that storm had closed fast. There was no way I wasn’t going to get hit by it.

I turned back and made to the tree line. I knew it would provide some level of shelter. Grabbing my pack, I pulled the small tarp out and fashioned a lean to style shelter. Just enough to keep me dry.

The wind increased and the cold front coming in dropped the temperature another 15 degrees. Shit… Should I make a small fire? I should…

I quickly gathered up some brush for kindling and found a few dead trees to knock over. Propping them up against a nearby rock, I was able to break them down into smaller pieces by stomping on them. With a small stack of firewood, kindling, and a fire starter, I was set to go.

The rain hit with a crash. The tarp was being tested, as were the knots I had tied. But I was dry, out of the blustery wind, and relatively warm. I worked the ferro rod and caught the spark in my kindling pile. The spark turned to an ember, then a flame, then ignited with a soft roar.

Turning it over into some larger pieces, the setup was perfectly cozy. Now, I just needed to wait it out.

Sitting watching the fire crackle and pop helped give me clarity. I thought about my current ‘friend’ who had been nothing by trying lately. He had come out as gay, knowing that, as a bi man, I would support him, which I do. But he’s been running through girls like it was his job for the last five years. It was just so out of no where.

He was less than pleased with my response, but he also assumed we would just naturally want to be together since we are friends. I, love the guy, but he's a walking red flag for dating.

Not like I have any prospects there anyways. I mean I could date him, take advantage of what I know he’s working with and then we break up after it gets toxic… right? Terrible idea… I’m 42, I don't have time for that bullshit.

As I finished my thought I heard a cracking branch off to my left… then a second. Out of the darkness, soaked to the bone, was the runner from earlier.

They looked absolutely miserable. Soaked, a slight limp, and exhausted… despite the less than cordial encounter earlier, no reason to be an ass.

“You’re more than welcome to join me. Its not the most comfortable but its dry and warm.”

I could see the slight hesitation on their face, the quizzical reaction to my kindness. Clearly this person has a slightly jaded view of the world.. but their face softened as they took in the scene, obviously wanting the warmth and the kindness.

“Thank you. I’m Kace.”

Kace held out their hand and I took it. Their skin was soft but handshake was very firm… an interesting combination. I couldn’t tell if they were a man or woman, but, whatever they were, they were gorgeous.

Kade’s closely cropped hair, only slightly mussed from the run and rain was the color of chestnuts, with naturally lighter streaks running through. Their face, while chiseled from stone had soft feminine features but no hint of an Adam's apple. I was lost, but i could care less. They were beautiful.

“Nice to meet you Kace. I’m Sam. “

We chatted for hours. The storm, still raging, seemed as though it had ceased all movement just over us. Our conversation bounced between music, religion, politics, tv, love… it was a wonderful way to pass the time.

Once in the third hour. I realized our wood pile was dwindling. I needed to go out and find something. I told Kace my plan and disappeared into the storm.

The rain had turned frigid. I was able to find some recently fallen trees a few hundred yards from our site and dragged them back. I repeated my efforts from before and broke them down. Stacking them near the fire to dry out.

Stepping back under the tarp, I began to shiver from the cold material against my skin. With my teeth chattering and my fingers starting to stiffen, I knew I had done too much… I needed to strip.

I stuttered my words from the cold, “Kace, I I I need …. I need to take these clothes off….”

I tried to grab the hem of my shirt, but my fingers failed me. Kace stood up and stepped towards me. “Let me help.”

They grabbed the bottom of my shirt and pulled the damp material up over my head exposing my torso. I heard Kace breathe in sharply as I came into view. I'd worked hard at my body, so I wasn’t ashamed by an means. And hearing a beautiful person react to it was a small confidence boost.

But that might not have been the reason for their sharp breath... while I may be fit... my bare flesh told the story of my life... of my tragedy... of my pains.

With the wet material off, my skin began to feel the heat from the fire but the shivering kept up. Kace stood behind me and pressed their body against mine, rubbing their hands aggressively up and down my arms. I pulled my body into itself, their hands rubbing into my chest and body pressed against my back. I could have sworn I felt something press into my butt the moment after they touched my chest.

“Thank you…” I turned to grab the extra fleece I remembered being in my day pack but Kace was standing right there. Closer than ever, I could feel their heat. I could smell their heavenly musk… a mix of sweat, earth, and just a hint of floral. They looked into my eyes and I could see the desire in theirs. I leaned in and kissed their lips.

Kace, pulled back for a second. “Sam, you… you know I’m a boy… right?”

“Honestly, no. I didn't. But, also, I don't care.”

I leaned in again. Our lips meeting and parting slightly. My hands circled around him, pulling him close. Our kiss broke when he looked away, but I saw his bare neck and dove in.

“What do you mean you don’t care? As in you think no one will ever find out?”

I came up for air from kissing his neck…” I mean I don’t care because I don't care. I’m bisexual…”

“oh…”

He turned back to me and our lips met again. Our tongues clashed as we both settled in for a long and heated make out session.

I broke away, grabbing his wrist and leading him back to where we were sitting. I sat on my camp chair and pulled him towards me, causing him to straddle me and sit on my lap.

We resumed out passionate embrace, but now he was grinding that perfect runner’s ass into my growing erection. He knew what he was doing… every time he would work his hips a groan would escape his lips.

My hands were everywhere on his body except where they actually wanted to be. But I was enjoying everything regardless.

Soon, our kissing cooled... as did our passion... as did the storm

“Sam… please tell me you don’t do this often…”

“What, make out with gorgeous joggers during freak rain storms? Of course! Don’t you?”

“Come on, be serious! I don’t want this to be the last time I get to see you.”

“Of course it won’t be. I promise. With the storm moving on, feel free to get back to your car. I’ll pack up my stuff and then head back too. We can exchange info and make sure we see each other again.

“But what if… what if I wanted to stay?”

A light smile graced my face. I couldn't believe this gorgeous man wanted to be with me… hell even around me.

“I’d love that.”

Operating under the leave no trace, we turned our makeshift sight back to its natural state rather quickly. As I’d had enough for the day, I walked back with Kace.

We chatted about favorite restaurants, with him hinting at which ones we should visit together. Finally telling me how much he loved sipping wind under the stars. Quite the hint dropped.

Getting back to our cars, I tossed my gear into my Jeep and walked over by his.

“So, I’d love it if I could call you and take you out to that sushi place you mentioned… can we call it a date?”

Kace walked up to me and kissed me, slipping his tongue suggestively against my lips. At the same time he reached down and cupped my package between my legs… cooing softly.

“Yes… but make sure you know where we are going afterwards."

“I’ll make sure to think of something.”

He spun away and I watched that tight runner's ass move away from me for the second time that day. With his phone number in hand, I knew this would be the start of something special.
