Prologue

I watched from small apartment, near the slums of where I lived. Like most modern cities,Crescent Valley had bustling parts and parts you would avoid if you were smart, unless you were looking for drugs. The air was stagnant and humid on this warm July day. Lucky for me I was off for the day, which worked me. Traffic was heavy and not moving, making drivers honk their horns loudly. I sighed, since it was to hot to shut my window. Besides it didn't help that the small fan I had, was old and barely worked. I really needed to get it replaced soon, once my paycheck came Friday. Trying to ignore my growing migraine, I looked out the window upwards. The sky was cloudless as the sun set high in the sky.

A loud boom passed over the city. It worsened my headache but I looked up, shading my eyes with my right hand. The plane dropped something in the middle of my street. It was falling fast whatever it was. Despite every rational fiber telling me to move, I stood transfixed at the window watching it fall. As it fell, it started releasing this dark purple gas. The closer it got the more I realized it was a missile of some kind. It was gunmetal gray, and was an oblong cylinder. I watched frozen with a mix of fear and curiosity, as the missile plummeted into the street through a car. It stood there,as motorists left their cars running away in all directions. They all seemed to be covering their mouths with their hand, trying not to inhale the strange purple gas. I grabbed a scarf and wrapped it over my mouth.

Quickly I ran down the stairs of the building towards the missile. I felt something inside me drawing me to it. The scarf made my neck sweat, more with each step. I did my best to ignore the growing dampness of the scarf as I approached the missile. The gas seemed to increase it release rate as I approached. It bathed the street in a purple haze. I moved forward blindly, trying to ignore the sound of engines roaring as I approached the missile. Trying avoid the cars, I walked until I found the missile with outstretched hands. The metal seemed to vibrate under my callused fingers. I tossed the scarf away since it wasn't doing much, outside of making my neck a puddle of sweat. The strange purple smoke being emitted began to make sight, difficult.

With a slight sigh, I moved away trying not to hit cars that were clearing still running. The mighty hum of the engines faded as I managed to walk to the sidewalk of my apartment.

With my skin covered in sweat I staggered back to my apartment. I locked the door as I entered my apartment. A strange tiredness began to fill my body, making the likelihood I would pass out soon. Walking into my messy bedroom, I passed out onto my bed. Sounds of sirens and car engines, filled my dreams.
