Chapter one: moon roses

The little kingdom grow larger over the years as did princess holly luckily for holly the kingdoms people or as nanny plum would insist she call them her subjects were very kind to her growing up it allowed her to be the free spirited woman she is today. Up in her room she looked open the moonlight tomorrow would be her coronation where she would be crowned queen, she dreamed about it sleepily her movements hazzy she was in such bliss that she had hardly noticed her feet levitating off the ground the fluttering of wings twitched with dreamy cozy excitement it was a nice thing. Holly needed to be queen and her parents needed a holiday to get away from it all.

Leaning on the ligh yellow rails she touched the petals of the blooming red roses that grow upward on the castle almost as if their entire purpose was to reach her, and in that case they succeeded.

She plucked a rose and brought it up to her nose it was cold but has the distinct smell of rose and the hint of the grassiness to it that was distracting. Holly didn't mind. The grass smell wasn't overpowering but it did allow her nose to twitch a smidge. " if I'm fortunate maybe the moon will bless me and lead my two fair littles sisters with my parents on there travails?". Hold said to the moon that didn't respond. The kingdom was asleep except for holly.

who shined with a royal glow that would match the uniqueness of a yellow diamond in a bed of daisies, incomparable. She twirled the rose in her long slender delicate fingers absentmindedly " though I suppose nanny plum would watch over them? Then again would she still bother me if I was queen?". The thought made holly's pink lips pout she wouldn't like the answer to that though she already knew what it was. "Probably ".

Letting out a sigh her bones turned to jelly as the wind brushed through her golden hair and pink night gown. tomorrow would be fine. Right? Sure she didn't prepare a speech? But no one informed her she had to? What would happen if she didn't get crowned? Would it fall on the heads on one of her sisters? Would the room go into hysterics? Would nanny plumb faint into the wise old elf arms? Would she be cast aside as the kingdom falls apart? And would she be able to fix it? Every time she used magic it would just cause her people more problems then revolutions and if she couldn't solve the kingdoms problems now how is she going to be able to in the future?maybe she wasn't cut out to be queen? But then .....what else would holly do? She loves her kingdom? But what if she was the reason it all fall's apart?.

Then again?

What else was she tought to do besides run a kingdom? There was no room for doubt only responsibility. She relaxed her shoulders and turned to walk back inside.

Something shooted out at her back.

"Ow!". Holly cried rubbing the spot it hit on her side looking down it was a small acorn? Smaller than her pinky finger.

She picked it up hesitantly this was new? And honestly odd?.

The smoothness was nice to feel absentmindedly.

Then suddenly there was a buzzing sound quickly she pocketed the acorn and looked up what she saw made all her worries go away like magic or a wish or something simply wonderful.

"Hey Holly". It was Ben her best friend he smiled at her while riding the same ladybug he had when they were small the poor thing was too small for his much bigger body it struggle to fly straight. Or fly at all the sweat looked like a river stream.

" Hey Ben". She replied giving him her hand to help him down Ben stood on the porch smiling down at her " so how is our future queen doing tonight?". Ben dusted off the dust from the journey here off with ease.

" oh well let's see hmm? Well I'm elegant I'm poised and my hair is as lovely as ever?". Holly mused.

" you know that's not what I meant".

Holly let the air linger a bit teasingly so like always.

" then maybe you should be more specific with your questions Ben it was very misleading". She lied.

" there no need I already know the answer ".

Holly raised her brows curiously " now do you?".

" indeed I do, I half expected you to be a bumble of nerves, like a bee stung by stingy nettles? You were never good under pressure ". Ben mumbled to himself hoping down to stand next to his friend.

" well bad habits die when you grow older I have gotten better at magic Ben impressively so not to tut my own horn" she tried to persuade her hand movements were instinctive.

Ben wasn't fooled by Holly's act no he was too clever to fall for her performative persuasion scoffing lightly he asked a question that he knows will shut down the facades.

" so how have your queen lessons been going? Hmm". He crossed his arm and saw the light switch flicker in Holly face that did it

Holly tired to rebuttal but she just stood there sputtering all the 'graceful' aura from the fairy princess immediately went back inside her.

Looking lost for words and honestly ticked off that Ben brought it up in first place Holly placed down the rose and turned away from him " is that all you came for? Just to torment me?".

" I'll take your lack of an answer to mean it didn't go very well then?".

Holly turned her body to yell at Ben. When a row of flowers landed in a soft quick motion on her blond locks blinking in surprise she lightly touched the pedals of the flower crown. She had found that the flowers were freshly picked? Ben most probably made it himself? But why?.

" Ben?".

The elf boy smiled and bowed dramatically which made Holly smile against herself.

" A crown worthy for our future queen this is my gift to you Holly ". Ben said with a dramatic accent then he straightened up and his body language was true and venerable with no trace of a lie, he spoke the next words like a honest wisper " As your humble subject.... And your friend".

Holly heart felt like a comfortable cloud in her chest her sweet heart warming at his words that she knew she needed to hear to get through this. Holly knew that though they had grown distant over the years and have changed in many ways she was grateful that they were still friends, that their bond had not broken over time. this was truly Holly's greatest gift. greater then her little kingdom.

Holly flied her wings fluttering as she lunged for a hug.

Wrapping his arms around her in a tight hug Ben didn't comment about the fact that Holly's hair was unflatteringly in his face blinding him.

the soft nightdress was breezy in the air some of the flowers on her head pedals flied away like dust.

" Thank you Ben". She whispered to herself against his neck.

Soon the night grow darker and Ben flied away riding the ladybug back home and Holly well she would gaze out into the moon in a way it did gave her her answers it lead Ben to her, she placed the rose in the vase and went to bed tomorrow was going to be the best day of her life.
