Summary

Charlie is the devil on your shoulder, the enemy behind the barricade, the person inside of you that you don't share with anyone else. In this book Charlie is also just an addict trying to get sober. Every person, especially an addict, is complex. To fully understand anybody one must consider their past, their environment, the choices they make and the forces driving those decisions, also, who is closely linked to them and even, their dreams. This novel is about that; understanding one person through the intertwining stories of 4 different characters, seeing someone through multiple lenses, through the years and seeing how strong past experiences can define someone years later and shape who they are in the present. In this novel, some of the characters are separated by a decade in time but their lives are linked and each action in one story causes an effect in the other in unimaginable ways. We think we are separated by space and time but there exists a stronger element, memory, weather realized or not, linking us together forever. Chris, Ryan and Jim all have a crucial role to play in the story of Charlies life but only until the whole story unfolds will the reader know just how strong of an impact each person has in creating or destroying her future.
