Date with Destiny

People say love happens at the most unexpected moments. I believe...that's a myth.

People don't just fall in love unexpectedly, you might've seen it coming all along and chose to ignore it.

"What are you always writing in your journal?" Divine asked, having snuck up on me once more. I gasped in surprise.

My hand flew to quickly cover my journal.

"Babe! I told you to stop sneaking up on me like that, we go fight o," I responded, my voice sharp.

“Will you tell me what you're always writing about in your journal one day?" He inquired, completely disregarding my angry remark.

He places my tray of breakfast on the kitchen counter, twirls my chair and snakes his warm firm forearms round my waist.

"One day."I say and kiss him.

When I fell in love it was expected, what I mean is...I was expecting to fall in love at any moment with my now-fiancé.

Let me tell you a short story.

I grew up in a home of strict parents, who argued all the time.

Why? Because of money!

I wasn’t from a rich background.

Love? What was that? We- my siblings and I never knew that except our mother's love.

I saw my dad as an irresponsible broke man...well, he did say he was trying his best for us, though we never saw any of it. He also did say, he worked hard to get the better life for us, but every single time he could never get that better life. He did help a few times not always but ten percent of the time.

My mom on the other hand, she really did her best to train my two siblings and I through our secondary school days. She did a lot of menial jobs like, washing other people's clothes, sweeping people's houses, hawking ladies footwear and all, until we all graduated high school.

Now I'm in the university studying theatre arts and media, to hopefully become the most famous script writer ever.

Divine and I met on the day of my department registration. I'm not lying to you, the guy's every-book-girl's-dream-boyfriend-come-to-life.

The only spoiler was that He was a pompous spoilt rich kid from VI, Lagos. He grew up in new York, he left when he was fourteen and had since lived with his grandparents.

Apparently, his dad sent him back to Nigerian to stay with his grandparents because of his wayward behaviour.

When we met, the guy legit asked me how much it would cost to sleep with me. I responded with a slap shocking him and everyone at the queue.

We were sent to the chancellor's office for discipline.

"It wasn't my fault sir" I pleaded.

Divine scoffed.

"I heard." The chancellor said, staring sternly at Divine, who frowned.

"What?"

"Aren’t you supposed to apologize to the girl you just indirectly called a prostitute in front of every new freshman at school today?"

"But I didn't call her that"

"Sure you didn't!" I snapped, "ah! Uncle, you can lie!"

"Young man, apologize or should I call in some witnesses that I have"

Divine’s eyes widened, he turned to face me with a deadly glare but I was fazed.

I crossed my arms and gave him a condescending smile.

“I’m sorry…” He gritted his teeth as he apologized.

“No problem.”

“Good. Now leave my office both of you.” The chancellor said, as he brought out some files.

Outside his office, Divine glared at me; leaning in he whispered in my ears…

“Watch your back shorty.”

He stood straight, I leaned forward; smiled while adjusting his shirt.

“You should take your own advice.” I glared at him, while talking softly.

We went our separate ways.

Obsidian: He's hilarious. Like, actually. I loved it. You're writing style is great, although you could do with a few less murmurs and mutters. I know it sounds critical, but I have the same problem and I hate it. Overall, it was one of the best stories I've read on here so far. I liked it better than those M...
